Title: Approximate calculation on deflection of variable section box girder considering the effect of shear lag and shear deformation
Authors: LIN Lixia, WU Yaping, DING Nanhong
PP: 1121-1126
Abstract: Based on the equivalent stiffness principle, an approximate method suitable for hand calculation is proposed to calculate the deflection of variable section box girder bearing load, in which, the double effects of shear lag and shear deformation can be taken into account. It shows that the deflection calculated by elementary beam theory without considering shear lag effect and the shear deformation is smaller, comparing to results calculated by the approximate method proposed in the paper. For such variable section box girder, transverse shear deformation effect is greater than the shear lag effect when calculating the deflection. The approximate method offers a simple and effective calculating method for the design of box girder with variable cross section, in which, analysis formula can be applied in engineering practice through simple revision.

PP: 1106-1113
Abstract: This paper studies on slewing motion of a single anchoring ship in wind force by separation modeling and established the mathematical model of a single anchoring ship's slewing movement. The slewing movement of the single anchoring ship was simulated by using Matlab simulation program, the ship s slewing motion in wind and trend were put forward; the trend of transverse range and maximum chain force under different chain length, load and wind speed was analyzed; meanwhile, the limited wind speed at single anchoring was also analyzed. The results showed that the single anchoring couldn't ensure the safety of the ship in strong wind, which can provide references for anchoring operation.

PP: 1100-1105
Abstract: In order to solve the discrete controlled train traction calculation problem, the paper sets up a general discrete controlled train traction calculation model. The model includes multi particle train model and three main operation processes. The processes are start and acceleration process, moving process and braking process. The paper chooses balance speed of train to shift gears. Energy consumption is deduced by reducing unnecessary brake. According to these analyses, train traction calculation program is built up. Test results indicate that the model is effective and reasonable.

Authors: GUO Kaixiang, GAO Feng, CUI Ying, SUN Peng
PP: 1094-1099
Abstract: This paper describes the design of double wishbone suspension according to formula society of automotive engineers(FSAE)rules requirements. Using ADAMS software to model and simulate the suspension, the change of front suspension Kingpin parameters (Kingpin caster angle, Kingpin inclination angle, wheel camber angle and front toe) were obtained during the travel of the wheel, and the results of simulation were analyzed. Using ADAMS/Insight to analyze the sensibility of connection points (hard points) of the suspension, the range of caster angle was optimized from 3.52°~5.23° to 3.8°~4.8° through the change of the most sensitive hard point, which proved the optimization of connection points to be an effective way to optimize the kingpin parameters.

PP: 1084-1093
Abstract: The shifting process of vehicle equipped with dual clutch transmission (DCT) has been analyzed and the dynamic equations of DCT have been established. Based on analyzing influence factor of shifting quality for DCT, two clutches separation and engaging speed fuzzy controller has been designed, and output of two clutches separation and engaging speed fuzzy controller was quantized by utilizing change of shift transmission ratio. The simulation results showed in this paper that the two clutches separation and engaging speed fuzzy controller with dual clutch transmission vehicle can respond to the request that the vehicle shifts smoothly and fast well.

Title: Model of optimizing lengths of short lanes and parameters of signal timing at signalized intersections
Authors: YAO Ronghan, WANG Libing
PP: 1076-1083
Abstract: To improve capacity of intersection and use short lane fully, the combined model of optimizing lengths of short lane and parameters of signal timing is developed. To explain the effectivity of the optimization model, the two channelization schemes of short lane are given and the parameters of signal timing are calculated by the Webster model. The optimized scheme and the designed schemes are evaluated by the indexes of capacity, average delay and saturation. The results indicate that the utility of short lane descends and the capacity of intersection does not reach maximum when short lane is too short; and the time space resources of intersection will be wasted though the utility of short lane is equal to 1 when short lane is too long; the capacity is maximum and the time space resources is not wasted when the length of short lane is optimal.

Title: Deducing trip purpose from GPS trajectory data: a machine learning approach
Authors: DENG Zhongwei, JI Minhe
PP: 1064-1070
Abstract: This paper presents a machine learning approach to derive trip purpose from GPS trajectory data coupled with other relevant data sources. This approach employs a number of attributes (i.e. time stamp and land use type of trip ends, a set of spatiotemporal indices of travel, and demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of respondents) to construct a decision tree for purpose classification. Each attribute provides partial evidence to the depiction of a given purpose, but this depiction may or may not be monotonic, and none of them can work alone towards the goal. A reasoning procedure using the adaptive boosting technique was designed to explore how these attributes could work together to achieve trip purpose derivation. This technique generated multiple decision trees to improve the classification results through a mechanism of voting from these trees. Each tree was constructed in the depth first fashion with the root node and the split of subsequent nodes being determined on the basis of the gain ratio computed for the relevant attributes. This procedure was implemented in the C5.0 machine learning environment with 226 GPS trip records collected from 36 respondents. The experimental results seemed rather promising: using 10 iterations for adaptive boosting, an overall classification accuracy of 87.6% was achieved.
