Title: A innovative technology of the nuclear heating for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate changes
Authors: TIAN Jiafu, ZHAO Zhaoyi, CAO Dongxing
PP: 367~371
Abstract: The energy of the heating systems is dominated by coal, which is cheap and often the only affordable option in China. The direct burning of coal within cities results in local serious pollution. Coal is carbon intensive sources emitted a mass of greenhouse gas. The many district heating systems have already been constructed or are under construction since they are most suitable for dense population and concentrated buildings. These systems supply heat for the floor area of 2 500 million sq meters and consume up to 150 million tons of coal as well as produce about 250 million tons of greenhouse gas in whole country by the year 2005. Converting energy structure is needed for alleviating local pollution, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing global climate change. One of the effective alternative solutions is substituting coal by nuclear energy, which is well suited to meeting the demand for continuous, reliable heating supply on a large scale. However, it is necessary to develop innovative reactor concepts which should be much more safe, reliable and economical than the existing heating reactor design. Moreover, it should be competitive economically with the conventional energy for district heating. This paper introduces a novel heating reactor design for low-temperature heat supply.
