	1. Scattering effect of sigma orbitals in single-wall carbon nanotubes

	Abstract:The hybridization orbitals of single-wall carbon nanotubes are given according to the structure of single-wall carbon nanotubes. The energy levels of these hybridization orbitals are close to each other, and then the sigma orbitals will lead to the scattering of electrons. This scattering effect is taken into account in the nanotube when the local wave function of electrons is constructed, which is called the extended Wannier function. In the Wannier representation, the electronic hopping energies and the energy gaps of the tube (9,0) and (9,9) are calculated. Our results show that the band gap of the tubes increases in direct ratio with the scattering coefficients of orbitals and this scattering is able to enhance the localization of electrons.

	2. Frequency-dependent transport properties for two-channel Luttinger liquid quantum wires

	Abstract:We study theoretically the ac transport properties for clean two-channel spinless nonchiral and chiral Luttinger liquid (LL) quantum wires with leads (reservoirs) in the presence of both inter- and intra-channel electron-electron nteractions. Using the equation of motion approach of bosonization technique within linear response theory, we have found that the ac conductivities for the two types of LL quantum wires are generally an oscillation function of the electron-electron interaction strengths, the ratio of Fermi velocities in the channels, the driving frequency and the measurement position in the wire. But the physics is expected to be quite different for these two types of systems and the explanations for this difference are discussed. However, in the dc limit the conductivities for the two types of systems all tend to the conductance quanta of $2e^2/h$. This means that the electron-electron interactions does not renormalize the dc conductivity for finite LL quantum wire systems, which is in agreement with the previous researches.

	Abstract:Classical thermodynamic theory still holds true in subsystem that is a percolation connected by 8 orders of self-similar 2-body-3-body coupling clusters. The fixed point, B2* = 3/8, for the clusters of different size, existing in reduced second Virial coefficients has been proved by scaling theory in percolation field. It is shown that, if B2* = 3/8 is combined with B3* 5/8, the potentials of 2-body-3-body coupling clusters, in critical local cluster growth phase transition, balance the kinetic energy in the glass transition. It is also proved that the glass transition corresponds to the regime in which the chemical potentials in all subsystems hold zero.

	Abstract:The existence of fixed point for self-similar Lennard-Jones (L-J) potentials, in local cluster growth phase transition in the glass transition, has been proved using the recursive equation of reinforce-restraint of self-similar potential fluctuation. A series of results have been directly deduced. (a) There are only 8 orders of self-similar hard-spheres in the glass transition. (b) A universal behavior: two orthogonal reduced geometric phase potentials (RGPP), the fast RGPP 3/8 and the slow RGPP 5/8, accompanied with 8 orders of cluster growth phase transitions. (c) The stability condition for fluctuation reinforce-restraint is just the Lindemann ratio that is exactly deduced as 0.1047in this paper. (d) The interface excited energy is an invariable of 1/8 E (E:potential well energy). The origin and transfer of interface excitation comes of the balance between self-similar L-J potential fluctuation and geometric phase potential fluctuation, which also gives rise to a new attractive potential of -17/16 E, lower than the potential well energy -E, in the self-similar mean field of mean fields of different sizes. (e) The delocalization energy of two-body is exactly the transfer energy of excited interface, and the delocalization path is along 8 orders of geodesics in topological analyses.

	5. Unified model theory of the glass transition I.Eight orders of instant 2-D mosaic geometric structures

	Abstract:The nature of the glass transition may be disclosed that the glass transition is only determined by the intrinsic 8 orders of instant 2-D mosaic geometric structures, without any presupposition and relevant parameter. An interface excited state on the geometric structures comes from the additional Lindemann distance increment, which is a vector with 8 orders of relaxation times, 8 orders of additional restoring force moment (ARFM), quantized energy and extra volume. Each order of anharmonic ARFM gives rise to an additional position-asymmetry on a 2-D projection plane of a reference particle, thus, in removing additional position-asymmetry, the 8 orders of 2-D clusters and hard-spheres accompanied with the 4 excited interface relaxations of the reference particle have been illustrated. Dynamical behavior comes of the slow inverse energy cascade to generate 8 orders of clusters, to thaw a solid-domain, and the fast cascade to relax tension and rearrange structure. This model provides a unified mechanism to interpret hard-sphere, compacting cluster, free volume, cage, jamming behaviors, geometrical frustration, reptation, Ising model, breaking solid lattice, percolation, cooperative migration and orientation, critical entanglement chain length and structure rearrangements. It also directly deduces a series of quantitative values for the average energy of cooperative migration in one direction, localized energy independent of temperature and the activation energy to break solid lattice. In a flexible polymer system, there are all 320 different interface excited states that have the same quantized excited energy but different interaction times, relaxation times and phases. The quantized excited energy is about 6.4 k = 0.55meV.

	6. Anisotropic spin transport in GaAs quantum wells in the presence of competing Dresselhaus and Rashba spin-orbit-coupling strengths

	Abstract:Aiming at the optimization of the spin diffusion length in (001) GaAs quantum wells, we explore the effect of the anisotropy of the spin-orbit coupling on the competition between the Rashba and the Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings by solving the kinetic spin Bloch equations with the electronphonon and the electron-electron scattering explicitly included. For identical strengths of the Rashba and the Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings, the spin diffusion length shows strong anisotropy not only for the spin polarization direction but also for the spin diffusion direction. Two special directions are used seeking for the large diffusion length: (110) and (110). Without the cubic term of the Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling and with the identical Dresselhaus and Rashba strengths, infinite diffusion lengths can be obtained either for the spin diffusion/injection direction along (? 10), regardless of the direction of spin polarization, or for the spin polarization along (110), regardless of the direction of the spin diffusion/injection. However, the cubic Dresselhaus term cannot be neglected, resulting into a finite spin diffusion length which decreases with the temperature and the electron density, and of which the anisotropy for the spin diffusion direction and spin polarization direction is maintained. For the spin diffusion/injection direction along (?10), the spin diffusion length increases first with the increase of the Rashba strength (from 0) which can be tuned by the external gate voltage; when the Rashba strength is slightly smaller than (in stead of equal to) the Dresselhaus strength, the diffusion length reaches its maximum; and then it decreases with the Rashba strength.

	Abstract:A two-dimensional (2D) electron-longitudinal acoustic-phonon interaction Hamiltonian is derived and used to calculate the ground-state energy of the acoustic polarons in two dimensions. The numerical results for the ground-state energy of the acoustic polarons in 2D as well as 3D are obtained. The results of three dimensions are found to be comparable to the results of Feynman path-integral approach. It is found that the critical coupling constant, at which the self-trapping occurs, in 2D is much smaller than that in 3D within the given cutoff wave-vector. The theory has been used to judge the possibility of self-trapping for several real materials. The results indicate that the self-trapping of the electrons in AlN as well as the holes in AlN and GaN is expected to be observed in 2D systems.

	8. Exciton-polaritons in ternary mixed crystals

	Abstract:The bulk exciton polaritons in ternary mixed crystals are investigated in the Born-Huang approximation. The numerical results of the polariton frequencies as functions of the wave-vector and the compositions for ternary mixed crystals AlxGa1-xAs, CdxZn1-xSe, and AlxGa1-xN are obtained and discussed. The new dispersion characteristics for exciton-polaritons in TMC systems are found in comparison with binary crystals. The splitting of the two branches of exciton- polariton frequencies varys nonlinearly with the composition of ternary mixed crystals and has a minimum in the long-wavelength range.

	9. The effect of the antiresonance on the I-V character

	Abstract:The I-V spectrum of electronic transport through a quantum dot chain is calculated by means of the nonequilibrium Green function technique. In such a system, two arbitrary quantum dots are connected with two electron reservoirs through leads. When the dot-lead coupling is very weak, a series of discrete resonant peaks in electron transmission function cause staircase-like I-V characteristic. On the contrary, in the relatively strong dot-lead coupling regime, stairs in the I-V spectrum due to resonance vanish. However, when there are some dangling quantum dots in the chain outside two leads, the antiresonance which corresponds to the zero points of electron transmission function brings about novel staircase characteristic in the I-V spectrum. Moreover, two features in the I-V spectrum arising from the antiresonance are pointed out, which are significant for possible device applications. One is the multiple negative differential conductance regions, and another is regarding to create a highly spin-polarized current through the quantum dot chain by the interplay of the resonance and antiresonance. Finally, we focus on the role that the many-body effect plays on the antiresonance. Our result is that the antiresonance remains when the electron interaction is considered to the second order approximation.

	10. Antiresonance in multi-quantum-dot system and its application as a spin filter

	Abstract:By means of the nonequilibrium Green function technique, the electronic transport through a multi-quantum-dot system is theoretically studied. In this system, a one-dimensional quantum dot chain between two contacts forms a main channel for the electronic tunnelling. Each quantum dot in the chain couples laterally to a dangling quantum dot. Whenever the energy of the incident electron is aligned with the energy levels of the dangling quantum dots, a zero point of the electron transmission function occurs due to the Fano antiresonance. As a result, the linear conductance spectrum presents an insulating band around the antiresonant point. What is interesting is that both edges of the insulating band become steep rapidly with the increase of numbers of the quantum dots, and an energy gap comes up evidently. This phenomenon is discussed in detail, and is compared with the one-dimensional double quantum dot system, where one can realize the importance of the antiresonant effect. Therefore, we assume that the quantum dot levels are spin dependent, which can be realized by applying a magnetic field on them or assuming them to be made of ferromagnetic material. The energy gap corresponding to opposite spins can separate from each other. With regard to the intradot electron interaction, we assume the second-order approximation, and the energy gap broadens. On the basis of this feature, we propose that such a double-quantum-dot chain can be considered as a device prototype of a spin flter.
