	1. Toxicity of Uranium and Lead to B.subtilis

	Abstract:B.subtilis has the broad foreground in dealing with the heavy metals waste water. It is necessary to study the toxicity of heavy metals to B.subtilis and get “the Maximum No-Effect Level ” and “the Lethal Concentration”.The toxicity of different concentration Uranium and Lead to B.subtilis in its growth was studied by three different methods in terms of measuring the diameter of the circle of bacteriostasis, counting the bacterial population by Heamacytometer and observing the change of the shape and the density of the bacteria through microscope. The experimental results have indicated that these two heavy metals had great inhibition effect to the growth of B.subtilis. The Maximum No-Effect Level of Uranium and Lead to B.subtilis are below 1mg/L and the Lethal Concentration of Uranium and Lead to B.subtilis are 500mg/L and 1000mg/L respectively. In these methods used for the toxicity of heavy metals to microorganism，counting the bacterial population are more sensitive.

	Abstract:A kind of violent spark discharge between active carbon and iron is formed under microwave radiation, which making up of non-stable discharge plasma in microwave field. Under the work of microwave radiation and microwave plasma, active carbon’s absorbent ability and iron’s internal electrolysis reactive activity were regenerated. This study applied the technology of internal electrolysis enhanced by microwave plasma to degradate reactive brilliant blue KN-R solution. Before and after regeneration, the absorbance and CODCr value of solution were measured and SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) figures of the configuration of active carbon and iron were recorded and compared.

	Abstract:This study examined the performance of a new submerged membrane bioreactor for the municipal wastewater, removal characteristics of different molecular weight organic matter, and the effect of operating parameters on removal of organic compounds and nitrogen. Under the continuous inflow and intermittent aerobic conditions, the new submerged membrane bioreactor could remove efficiently the organic matter, nitrogen and heavy metal in the municipal wastewater. Average removal rates of .DOC, CODcr, NH4-N, and T-N reached 75%, 90%, 95%, and 80% respectively. The removal of small molecular weight substance (MW<4,000 daltons) was low. The mediium molecular weight substance (MW=4,000～30,000 daltons) removal rate was more than 90%. The high molecular weight (MW>30,000 daltons) substance was accumulated in the bioreactor, but was removed by submerged micro-filtration membrane at the end. Hydraulic retention time, aeration time, and non-aeration time had considerable influence on removal of organic matter and nitrogen. The most beneficial HRT was 4 hours considering both technology and economy. The best aeration time and non-aeration time were 90min and 30min respectively under the condition of a total cycling time of 120 min.

	4. Construction and Application of Transient Hydraulic Model of Urban Water Supply Distribution Network

	Abstract:This paper presented a new method to construct transient model on basis of steady model： First, it calculated the evaluation value of transient flow to decide the requirement of transient analysis; Second, it used the statistic model to confirm the calculation bound and signed the distribution network; Third, when boundary conditions and other systematic parameters had been confirmed, the equations of transient could be solved using the Method of Characteristics (MOC); At last, it calibrated the model based on testing data. Contrast to traditional method, this method integrates transient model with steady model seamlessly in the process of constructing the dynamic hydraulic model of water supply distribution network, which extends the application aspect , and can be used to safety analysis of distribution network to guard against accident, such as pipe burst.

	5. Research on Composition and Recycle Value of Aged Refuse at Shanghai Refuse Landfill

	Abstract:Refuse at Shanghai Refuse Landfill was excavated from the compartments closed from 1991 to 2004; and the composition of aged refuse was studied. The results show that plastic and rubber fractions were well preserved from photodegradation and oxygen aging in closed compartments, and can be recycled after simple pretreatment; the content of organic fraction, mainly including plastic fraction, increased logarithmically with placement time and will exceed inorganic fraction after 2010. Thus thermal treatment, such as incineration and hydrolysis, may be an effective way for the cycling of aged refuse.

	6. Adsorption of Phosphorus from Aqueous Solution on Blast Furnace Slags

	Abstract: This paper focus on the adsorption of phosphorus onto blast furnace slags. Its equilibrium isotherm and kinetic model were investigated by using different models. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms were applied to describe the experimental isotherm data and the results showed that the Langmuir isotherm was the best to characterize the phosphorus adsorption behavior on the blast furnace slags with the maximum adsorption capacity of 1341.6mg/kg. The kinetics studies at different initial phosphorus concentrations showed that greatest amount of phosphorus adsorption were completed during the first 10h. Although the process of phosphorus adsorption as a function of time can be suitably described by first-order and pseudo second-order kinetics, the pseudo second-order kinetics are proved to be the best with the similar qe with the experimental data.

	7. Inactivation of Chironomid larvae with chlorine dioxide: a bench-scale and pilot-scale

	Abstract:In this paper, the inactivation effects of chlorine and chlorine dioxide on Chironomid larvae were investigated and some boundary values in practice were determined under conditions of various oxidant dosage, organic precursor concentration and pH value. In addition, pilot-scale experiments of preoxidation cooperating with routine water clarification process for removal of Chironomid larvae was conducted at the Shenzhen Waterworks in Guangdong Prov., China. It was founded that chlorine dioxide possessed better inactivation effect than chlorine. Complete inactivation of Chironomid larvae in raw water was resulted by ClO2 dose of 1.5 mg l-1 with contact time of 30 min. Additionally, the organic precursor concentration, pH value had little influence on the inactivation effect. At pilot-scale, 78% and 92% of removal efficiency may be attained by sedimentation and filtration process respectively under no oxidant dosing condition. Chironomid larvae can be completely removed from water body by chlorine dioxide preoxidation cooperating with conventional clarification process with 0.51mg l-1 of ClO2, whereas 3.97mg l-1 was required for chlorine.

	Abstract:Acrylic fiber wastewater is one kind of highly concentrated organic wastewater which contains various pollutants and complex compounds. It brings some large environmental pollutions and is difficult to deal through sole craft processing. This study focuses on the methods of removing acrylic fiber wastewater by using aerobic bio-chemical processing ，anaerobic bio-chemical processing and ultrasonic method. The result indicated that the disposal of COD could come up to 94.14%, the concentration of COD is only 85mg/L, attain to the first-level national effluent standard.

	9. Microwave thermal pretreatment of sewage sludge

	Abstract:Water could absorb microwave and increase temperature rapidly within short time. Municipal wastewater treatment plant sewage sludge was used to be heated by microwave digestion reactor. Sludge total solid content (TS) was 2%, 4% and 5%. Microwave heating temperature was 150℃, 170℃ and 190℃, reaction time was 5 minutes. Results show that temperature rising trend from ambient to three specified temperature was similar. Colloid structure was destroyed to release soluble organic components. Dewaterability and settling performance were improved. TS and suspended solid content (SS) reduced. High temperature resulted high SS dissolving ratio. For TS 2% sludge, at 190℃ 40.0% of SS dissolved.

	10. Preparation and properties of Al2O3-ZrO2 composite hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes

	Abstract:ZrO2–Al2O3 composite hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes were prepared by filtration technique and sol-gel process using aluminium iso-propoxide and zirconyl chloride as raw materials. Characterization for membranes was performed by means of XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, BET, SEM and gas permeation testing. The crystal phase of composite membranes is tetragonal ZrO2 from700℃ to 1100℃, and the thermal stability of composite membranes is greatly improved，compared to pure Al2O3 or ZrO2 membranes. SEM observation showed that the membranes are defect-free. Nitrogen isothermal absorption measurement presented that the most concentrative pore diameters are about 4.3 nm when the mole ratios of Al2O3/ZrO2 change from 4 to 0.05, and the pore size distributions are narrow. As a result, ZrO2–Al2O3 composite membranes can be developed as a method to secure the membrane from cracking in preparation process and high temperature applications.
