Abstract:Zinc (Ⅱ) commonly exists in drinking water. This paper aims to investigate the effects of humic acid on the adsorption of Zn2+ on amorphous Al(OH)3. Both suspension and well scaled forms of Al(OH)3 were investigated applying ICP-AES determination and Visual MINTEQ calculation. It was found that in solutions without HA, pH had notable effects on the removal of Zn2+. Chemical adsorption mainly took place at pH above 7.5; 1.0 g solid could accumulate about 15.9 mg Zn2+ at 15℃. Because of H+ inhibition, active reaction sites on amorphous Al(OH)3 surface were much less at pH below 7.5. The adsorption of Zn2+ on Al(OH)3 changed gradually from chemical coordination to physical adsorption. Compared with Zn2+, the adsorption of HA on Al(OH)3 suspension was strong. In drinking water with HA coexisting, the adsorption of Zn2+ was enhanced notably; while pH had little effects its removal. Under the bridging effects of HA, Zn2+ could not be detected in solution with HA above 1.0 mg/L, much lower than the standard required level. The adsorption of Al(OH)3 scale for Zn2+ was weak, about 0.2 mg/g. Better management on sediment accumulation and Zn2+ preservation was suggested to control the concentration of Zn2+ residual.

Abstract:Strength and elongation are two important parameters for evaluating the durability property of needle felt which is now widely used for the air pollution control. It is necessary to measure them as reasonable as possible. The paper researches on the effect of sample size on the strength measurement of needle felt. The sample size is set as 2cm, 3cm, 4cm and 5cm for width and 10cm, 20m and 30cm for length respectively and the strength measurements are completed. It can be concluded that the width of 5cm and length of 20cm are suitable values for the strength measurement of needle felt for which gives the smallest deviation for both machine direction and transverse direction of needle felt. And the sample length has a bigger effect on strength measurement of needle felt than sample width.

Abstract:The NOx trap capacity has been investigated by temperature programmed adsorption (TPA) experiments over a variety of Ce/Zr-containing catalysts. A fresh (F) or aged (A) Ce/Zr component, such as Ce0.58Zr0.42O2 (CZ64) or Ce0.80Zr0.20O2 (CZ82), was physical mixed with Pt/Al2O3 (PA) to form a Ce/Zr-Pt/Al2O3 mixture. PA-FCZ64, PA-FCZ82 and PA-ACZ64 show significant improvement in slowing down the premature NO release as temperature ramp from 100 to 150 ℃ However, an obvious NO release occurs on PA-ACZ82 under the same conditions. Using in situ DRIFT spectrometer, we found that nitrites oxidation by lattice oxygen of Ce/Zr was promoted on the fresh samples. It results in low coverage of nitrite with high stability. On the other hand, a large amount of nitrite was formed on PA-ACZ82, which could desorb upon increasing temperature. XPS results show a surface enrichment of Zr on the Ce/Zr samples, and the degree of the enrichment on CZ64 is higher than that on CZ82 for both fresh and aged samples. Segregation of CeO2 from the Ce/Zr phase have occurred on ACZ82, resulting in a lower stability of the nitrite species.

Abstract:Mesoporous titanium dioxide/graphitic carbon microspheres were synthesized by a simple nanocasting route using monodisperse silicon dioxide microspheres as the template. The characterize and the morphology of the titanium dioxide/graphitic carbon microspheres have been analyzed by means of XRD, N2-sorption, SEM, TEM, TG-DTA and EDAX. Indicated by the experimental results and the theoretical analysis, the anatase titanium dioxide nanoparticles of 8-14 nm in diameter were highly dispersed in the graphitic carbon microspheres. The obtained material can be used as catalyst or battery material.

Abstract:A series of structural modified LaxMnO3 (x = 0.9, 0.95, 1, 1.05, 1.11) perovskites used for NO oxidation was synthesized by a sol-gel method and characterized by XRD, BET, XPS, EPR and H2-TPR. La0.9MnO3 sample exhibits superior activity, and a 50% NO conversion at 250 C is obtained. XPS and EPR results reveal a higher Mn4+/Mn3+ ratio in Mn-rich samples, which induce more active oxygen bonding to Mn4+ due to the need for balancing the chemical states and stabilizing the structure. Easily regenerated oxygen associated with Mn4+ catalyzes the low-temperature NO oxidation. The constant activation energy (44.8 kJ/mol) obtained in the kinetics tests indicates the same mechanism of NO oxidation operated on all the samples.

Abstract:This study explored the feasibility to evaluate several physicochemical and nutrients properties such as moisture, pH, EC, total carbon (TC), total nitrogen (TN), C/N, Phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) in three kinds of animal manure composts in China using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and partial least squares. Total 120 compost samples, which included cattle manure, chicken manure and pig manure composts, were collected from 22 provinces in China and scanned with SPECTRUM ONE NTS (Perkin Elmer, New Jersey, USA) from 10000 to 4000 cm-1. The results showed that the physicochemical and nutrients properties in different animal manure composts could be successfully estimated using NIRS, especially for moisture, EC, VS, TC and TN. But there was different efficiency of NIRS models for different animal manure composts. In the long run, it may be feasible to make a difference between different animal manure composts for predictions and constantly enlarging the number of reference samples.)

Abstract:In this study, branched polyethyleneimine (PEI) was covalently linked to carboxylic acid functionalized graphene (GO-COOH) to form the GO-COOH/PEI composites. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectra and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) were used to characterize the obtained composites. Electrochemical measurements indicated that the modification of the composites on electrode could efficiently enhance the voltammetric response, suggesting the potential application for making electrochemical sensors. Moreover, our results also indicated that the electrocatalytic oxidation of ammonia could be observed on the GO-COOH/PEI composites modified glassy carbon electrode. Consequently, our observations demonstrated that GO-COOH/PEI composites were excellent materials for electrochemical sensing.

Abstract:The hierarchical ZnxCd1-xS-TiO2 heterostructures were successfully synthesized by the combination of an electrospinning technique and hydrothermal method. These heterostructures were characterized for the morphological, structural and optical, properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDS), transmission electron micrography(TEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and diffuse reflectance UV/visible absorption spectroscopy(UV-vis). The photocatalytic investigation showed that the ZnxCd1-xS-TiO2 heterostructures possessed enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) compared with the primaryTiO2 nanofibers and sole ZnxCd1-xS nanopaticles prepared via hydrothermal process under UV light irradiation. The composite of different semiconductor may facilitate the photogenerated charge carriers separation and transfer due to the difference in the band edge positions.

Abstract:Biphenyl is natural and synthetic aromatic compounds. This pollution has caused pubic concern due to its wide-spread use, improper handling, as well as its low degradability, strong bioaccumulation and high toxicity in the environment. Two bacterium strains, G-1 and G-2, were isolated from an activated sludge of a chemical factory wastewater treatment plant in China. Both the strains can use biphenyl as sole carbon and energy sources. The G-1 almost complete degraded it within 7 days, but can not utilized 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB77) as sole carbon source. Although, train G-2 degrade biphenyl slower than G-1, it can utilize PCB 77. Strain G-2 was identified as Paracoccus according to phylogenetic similarity of 16S rRNA gene sequence.

Abstract:Due to global climate change and resource shortage, energy efficiency and resource recycling received extensive attention. China has pushed forward the development of green building as national development strategy. Bathing water consumes both water and energy a lot. Varieties of studies have been carried out on the recycling of waste bathing water leading to numbers of technologies and theoretical researches. But current studies are restricted to the transformation of independent bath units, lacking of recycling on overall structure of the buildings and the analysis on inherent potential. This paper takes both energy and water reuse into consideration, providing a comprehensive application by the settlement using the waste water from bath for greening irrigation and warming-up the inlet bathing water. Predictions are made on energy saving efficiency in different seasons (26.1%, 29.2%, 28.6%) and irrigation ability per capita (97m2) of the comprehensive application.
