Abstract:Nearly free electron like states (NFE) are counterparts of the image potential states floating on the surfaces of low dimensional materials. The exotic nuclear scattering free transport associated with them is realized extensively by both computationally and experimentally. These states exist as unoccupied part of the band some eV above the Fermi level. But, it is possible to draw NFE states to Fermi level either through chemical or electric imposed modifications. Unfortunately, in most cases doping usually destroys nuclear scattering free transport of NFE states, or employs complex gate systems. But this concept is now shifting to electride based design which remarkably resorts with two dimensional electron gas in free space (2DEG-FS). This short review, gives a pardigm shift of NFE states to 2DEG-FS with aid of theoretical designs and computational characterization.

Abstract:A new parametrization of copper and carbon within the self-consistent-charge density-functional tight-binding framework is presented to study its condensed-phase properties. The electronic part of the parameters is mainly generated via optimizing band structures. The repulsive part is calculated from the force or energy data of the corresponding adsorption configurations. Benchmark calculations with the obtained parameter set show good performance of structural energetic properties of bulk and surface systems. Parameters reported here can be used for modeling of complicated copper and carbon nanostructures.

Abstract:The porous carbons derived from naturally abundant bamboo shoot shell for the application of supercapacitor are further activated by chemical activation with ZnCl2, H3PO4 and K2CO3. The influences of activation condition on the pore structure and physicochemical properties of the as-prepared porous carbon samples are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm, cyclic voltammogram (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cycle life measurement. The results show that the porous activated carbon prepared at 1:1 weight ratio of K2CO3 to bamboo shoot shell exhibits a specific surface area of 1800 m2 g-1 with the average pore size of 3.35 nm (AC-K2CO3-900). In addition, the AC-K2CO3-900 shows a high specific capacitance of 287 F g-1 at the current density of 1 A g-1. Moreover, the AC-K2CO3-900 supercapacitor holds high capacitance retention of 95.80% even after 10000 cycles, indicating its potential prospect for the application of high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:A catalytic asymmetric 1,6-conjugate addition of thiols to in situ generated para-quinone methides has been developed, affording a range of optically active benzyl thioethers in excellent yields and enantioselectivities. The use of para-hydroxybenzyl sulfones as precursors for the formation of transient p-QM intermediates allows to overcome the limitations in substrate scope.

Abstract:A new rhodamine hydrazide derivative L containing a long chain schiff base with salicylic acid was synthesized and characterized. Addition of Cu2+ induced a significant solution color change (colorless to pink) and an enhancement in fluorescence of the probe, even in the presence of other commonly coexistent cations in CH3CN/HEPES buffer solvent (1:1, v/v, pH 7.0). Cu2+-promoted ring-opening and hydrolysis of rhodamine L in aqueous acetonitrile media led to the fluorescence turn-on changes with high selectivity and high sensitivity (detection limit ≤ 22.9 nM) and a rapid response time (≤ 1 min). Importantly, the probe was successfully used for fluorescence imaging in colon cancer SW480 cells

Abstract:Mangiferin is a natural plant polyphenol with a structure of xanthone C-glycoside and it displays a wide spectrum of pharmacological activities. Investigation of the metabolites of mangiferin is valuable in studying on the mechanisms of its various pharmacological properties and developing novel drugs from the mangiferin derivatives. Among the metabolites of mangiferin, mangiferin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide has been reported as the phase II metabolite of mangiferin. Here we describe the first semi-synthesis of mangiferin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide with the natural product mangiferin as the starting material. In this work, we adopted several regioselective protection procedures to distinguish the different hydroxyl groups in the structure of mangiferin. And we accomplished the glycosylation under the phase-transfer catalysis conditions. In this method, we efficiently synthesized the glucuronide derivative of mangiferin in 10 steps with highly regioselective protection.

Abstract:Detection of copper ions (Cu2+) is of great significance in protecting the environment and human health. In the present work, we developed a new colorimetric and fluorescent probe for Cu2+ determination with high selectivity and rapid-response rate. Upon Cu2+ addition, the probe underwent an 86 nm blue-shift in absorption peak wavelength as well as a significant quenching in fluorescence emission. The fluorescence intensity at 575 nm showed a good linear relationship (R2 = 0.999) with the Cu2+ concentration in the range of 0 μM ~ 12 μM. Using the probe as an analytical tool, the detection of Cu2 + can be done within 5 s, whose process was not subject to interference from other metal ions and pH changes. Moreover, the probe can be used for Cu2+ assay in both real water sample and living cells.

Abstract:This work reports the application of a novel thermo-sensitive polymer PS-PNIPAm-PS in electrochemistry. It was fabricated and modi?ed onto a working electrode to form a self-protection electrochemical sensor. After testing, at low temperatures, it didn't affect the normal measurement of the working electrode; but at high temperatures, it can automatically shrink to form a dense film, to prevent electron transfer, protect the electrode surface is not damaged, increase its service life. This research provides a novel method for electrode protection, high temperature protection of batteries and new sensors production.
