Abstract:Silver(I) complexes with carboxylic acid as ligands have been paid wide attention in recent years. In this paper, we have synthesized a five-coordinated silver(I) complex [Ag(C10H8N2)(C22H13O6)(H2O)2](C3H7NO) with phenanthroline and 2,2'-Dihydroxy-[1,1'] -binaphthalenyl-3,3'-dicarboxylic acid as ligands. The Ag(I) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from phenanthroline and one O atoms from 2,2'-Dihydroxy-[1,1']binaphthalenyl-3,3'-dicarboxylic acid and two water molecules. The 3D network is formed by intramolecular and intermolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds.

Abstract:Polypyridyl coordination complexes of d6 octahedral metal ions could emits fluorescence from triplet MLCT (metal-to-ligand charge transfer) states, and thus demonstrate application potential as theranostic agents. Iron(II) complexes have been identified as potential anticancer drug candidates by inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. However, little information about the action mechanisms of these complexes is available. In the present study, a series of iron(II) polypyridyl complexes with diimine ligands , namely, [Fe(bpy)3]2+ (1), [Fe(phen)3]2+ (2) , [Fe(ip)3]2+ (3), [Fe(pip)3]2+ (4), [Fe(me-pip)3]2+ (5) (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; ip = imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline; pip = 2-phenylimidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline; me-pip = 2-(4-methylphenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline) have been synthesized and examined for their anticancer action mechanisms. Complexes 1-5 exhibited broad-spectrum growth inhibition on cancer cells, with MCF-7 human breast adenocarcinoma cells displaying the highest sensitivity. The antiproliferative activities of 2-5 were significantly higher than those of cisplatin and complex 1. The studies on the cellular uptake mechanisms revealed that, the complexes were delivered into MCF-7 cells by transferrin receptor-mediated endocytosis. Interestingly, the structural difference of the ligands affected the cellular localization of the complexes, which determines their anticancer action mechanisms. Specifically, complex 1 targeted the cell nucleus, and induced DNA demage-mediated p53 phosphorylation, and finally resulted in S phase cell cycle arrest. In contrast, complexes 2-5 remained in the cytoplasm, where they induced G0/G1 phase cell cycle arrest by regulating the expression levels of cell cycle regulatory proteins.

Abstract:Islet amyloid deposition misfolded by human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) could induce pancreatic β cell dysfunction, and finally resulting in cell apoptosis. Many studies have showed that inhibition of hIAPP aggregation could effectively reverse the β cell apoptosis. Therefore, hIAPP could be a good target for the therapeutics of type 2 diabetics. In the present study, we found that selenadiazole derivatives 1,2,5]selenadiazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-5,7- diamine (SePD) acted as an effective inhibitor of hIAPP fibril formation. ThT flourescent assay showed that SePD inhibited the formation of hIAPP fibrils dose-dependently. Kinetic and dose effects of hIAPP oligomer growth by TEM images indicated the inhibition of hIAPP fibrillation and generation of oligomer induced by SePD. The fibril-like structure stringed by oligomers could be distinguished from the virgin fibril. AFM images revealed that the difference in dose was directly linked to the changes of the conformational behavior of the peptide. Biological studies were conducted to investigate the in vitro protective effects of SePD on INS-1E rat insulinoma beta cells against hIAPP-induced cell death, as well as the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that, SePD blocked the hIAPP-induced apoptosis by suppression of caspase activation, mitochondrial dysfunction and ROS overproduction. These results support the potential therapeutic role of SePD in type II diabetes by preventing hIAPP-induced loss of pancreatic beta cells.

Abstract:In this paper,we report the preparation of lanthanide(III)-based metallogelators by cationic surfactant (DODA, DODA = dimethyl dioctadecyl ammonium) and lanthanide complexes [Ln(dpa)3]3- (Ln = Eu, Tb; dpa = dipicolinate) and their hierarchical self-assembly into highly luminescent flower-like and giant vesicular architectures in organic solvents, respectively. The present concept suggests that the combination of lanthanide(III) complexes with stepwise molecular self-assembly will open an alternative methodology to develop lanthanide(III)-based sensors and optoelectronic materials.

Abstract:A series of new tetranuclear organolanthanide complexes incorporating the o-aminobenzamido dianion ligand, [CpLn(μ-η2:η2-NHC6H4CONH)(μ3-η1:η1:η2- NHC6H4CONH)LnCp(HMPA)}2 (HMPA = OP(NMe2)3; Ln = Yb(1a), Er(1b)), are synthesized by reaction of Cp3Ln with o-aminobenzamide followed by crystallization in a mixed HMPA and toluene solvent. The reactivities of 1 toward isocyanate are also investigated. Treatment of 1 with 4 equiv of PhNCO in toluene gives the unusual dianionic quinazolyldionate (Quo) complexes [Cp2Ln(μ3-η2:η2:η1-Quo)]3Ln(HMPA)2 (Ln = Yb(2a), Er(2b)), indicating that one isocyanate molecule can undergo the tandem reaction with both NH and CONH of 1 to construct a quinazolyldionate skeleton, companying with the elimination of PhNH2. All the new complexes are characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic properties, and solid-stated structures of 1a, 1b and 2a are also determined through X-ray analysis.

Abstract:Cobalt (II) complex of 1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzimidazole have been synthesized and characterized by IR, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and cyclic voltammetry. This complex crystallized in the monoclinic space group P2/n with the cobalt atom adopting a four-coordinate distorted-tetrahedral environment, crystal of the complex: a=12.88 (?), b=9.83( ?),c=15.44( ?), α=γ=90 , V=1953.0(5) ? 3. The cobalt adopts a four-coordinate distorted-tetrahedral environment by two nitrogen atoms and two terminal chlorine atoms. The electrochemical characteristics have been studied by cyclic voltammetry, and the result proved that the coordination of the ligand with cobalt(II) increased the electrochemical activity of the ligand. The complex was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis revealed it has good thermal stability..
