Abstract:The switched reluctance machine (SRM) has attracted a great deal of interest in the development of integrated starter/generator (ISG) for aircraft or electric vehicle engines and power systems due to the low cost and high reliability. This paper presents a dynamic cosimulation approach for switched reluctance starter/genenrator (SRS/G) system assisted by Maxwell SPICE and Simplorer. The non-linear magnetization characteristics of flux linkage and torque of the machine have been considered and computed by finite element analysis (FEA). From the FEA static results, a dynamic equivalent mgnetic circuit model of SRS/G is introduced into Simplorer using Maxwell SPICE rules which is considered the indirect field-circuit coupling. The control strategies for the SRS/G operating in the mo-toring and generating states are presented. The simulation and experimental results for a 6/4 SRS/G system are also presented and compared to demonstrate the validity of the simulation method.

Abstract:Based on fractional calculus and the fractional order nature of the capacitor, the models for the fractional order capacitor in series and parallel connections are established and analyzed. The influence of the varied fractional order on the characteristic of the fractional order capacitor in series and parallel connections are given. Finally, the realization form of the fractional order capacitor is designed and the correctness of theoretical analysis is confirmed by using the circuit simulations from power electronics simulator (PSIM).

Abstract:The paper uses an LMI-based iterative nonlinear optimization algorithm to establish a method of designing state-feedback controllers for power systems with a time-varying delay. This method is based on the delay-dependent stabilization conditions obtained by free weighting matrix approach. In the stabilization conditions, the upper bound of wide-area signal's transmission delays is taken into consideration. Combining theories of state observer, the adeptive supervisory controller (ASC) is designed and time-delay output feedback robust controller is realized for power system. The ASC uses the input information from wide-area measurement systems (WAMS) and dispatches supplementary control signals to the available local controllers. Simulation study in the New England test power system confirm that the proposed ASCs can dampen power oscillation effectively and is robust to time-varying delay condition.

Abstract:In this paper, a comprehensive integrated long term planning approach for the transmission and distribution systems is proposed. The presented method involves iterative loops between the transmission and distribution system models to ensure the validity of results with respect to both systems. The presented planning approach can be seen as a simplified dynamic planning in a step by step manner, and in each single-time period transmission system expansion planning and distribution system expansion planning are reviewed and coordinated iteratively. A real system of a certain utility at Texas USA is investigated, and the simulation results show that the proposed method is feasible and effective.

Abstract:This paper mainly studies scheduling type photovoltaic generation system, and establishes a three-phase photovoltaic grid-connected model in Matlab/Simulink, which uses the MPPT control that can make full use of the solar energy. At the same time, energy storage device is added. The inverter of the energy storage device adopts V/f control. In the running state of the islanding because of a certain power failure, it can maintain a constant voltage and frequency. The simulation shows that as the output of the photovoltaic power increases, harmonic rate decreases under the same conditions, and the energy storage device can increase the stability of photovoltaic grid and reduce harmonic contents. So it's very necessary to add energy storage device in the photovoltaic system.

Abstract:The influence of lagged axial magnetic field (AMF) due to eddy current induced in contacts system on the distribution of cathode spots (CSs) in current-zero stage of vacuum arc with different current falling rates was investigated experimentally. Experiments were conducted with cup-shaped AMF contacts in a demountable vacuum chamber. The characteristic of CSs distribution of triggered vacuum arc in current-zero stage with arc current frequency of 50Hz was investigated at first with the aid of a high-speed digital camera with an exposure time of 2 microseconds. Then the characteristic of CSs distribution with faster current falling rate, which was realized by injecting a countercurrent with frequency of 500Hz or 1kHz, was investigated. Moreover, the lagged AMF flux density in current-zero stage with different current falling rates was calculated by ANSYS. Research results showed that CSs located in the center of contact plate tended to extinguish earlier than those at periphery of contact plate in fast current-zero stage due to the stronger lagged AMF in contact center.

Abstract:In this paper, the motion of high-current vacuum arc cathode spots is simulated numerically. The transverse magnetic field is computed by commercial software ANSYS with the current distribution in contact plate taken into account. The initial expansion process of cathode spots in triggered vacuum arc under self-generated azimuthal magnetic field without external AMF is simulated at first as a reference. Then three kinds of external AMF distributions are applied, i.e. uniform AMF, bell-shaped AMF and saddle-shaped AMF distribution. Simulation results show that cathode spots expand faster without external applied AMF than that under AMF. Further more, the distribution of AMF has significant influence on the motion pattern and the distribution of cathode spots on cathode surface, e.g., the concentration of cathode spots in the centre region under bell-shaped AMF is more serious than that under saddle-shaped AMF. The results also show that a ring-shaped distribution of cathode spots is not a stable configuration.

Abstract:A rigid connection between hub and motor in wheel electric vehicle (EV) drive makes the mechanical and electromagnetic impulsion inevitable especially in starting and braking. Referring to the mechanical clutch solution used in conventional cars, this paper tries to adopt an electromagnetic clutch between hub and motor, aiming to weaken the impulsion flexibly by an electrically-controlled connection. Accordingly, a novel bistable permanent magnet (PM) electromagnetic clutch unit is proposed. General design principle for this unit is investigated in detail and the magnetic field analysis is carried on getting the leakage coefficient. Analysis results show that the novel clutch would be a well-competitive challenger.

Abstract:The balanced truncation method (BTM) can make the reduced model preserve the controllability, observability, stability, and dynamic response of the original model, but some steady-state deviations between the reduced model and the original model exist. On the premise of keeping the merits of the BTM, this paper modifies the BTM to narrow the deviations by introducing a gain factor into the transfer function matrix of the reduced model to adjust the steady-state value of the output of the reduced model, but not to change the dynamic behavior. For verifying the modified BTM, we apply the method to the model reduction of a typical two-machine power system. The testing results indicate that the modified method can decrease the deviations, lower the order of the system, and retain dynamic behaviors of the original model.

Abstract:Wind power ramp rate limit in grid codes must be satisfied when smoothing wind power fluctuations. A methodology is proposed in this paper that can satisfy the ramp rate requirement by using two means, i.e. energy storage system and wind power curtailment. Based on the ultra-short-term wind power prediction, a rolling optimization problem is established to maximize the total profit of wind/storage hybrid system. The proposed method is applied in a case with practical data from an actual wind/storage demonstration project in China and the results show the effectiveness of the method.)
