Abstract:The experiments of mercury intrusion porosimetry and compressive strength of concrete after high temperature are performed, and the strength and microstructurer recovery of fire-damaged concrete after realkalisation is investigated. The results show that compressive strength of concrete decreased with the temperature increased, microstructure of concrete becomes worse, and macro porous has evident increase. After realkalisation repairing, compressive strength of concrete is improved to some extent, microstructure is improved obviously, and macro porous is decreased significantly. The variation of microstructure in concrete is in conformity with the change in mechanical properties, which draws a conclusion that realkalisation repairing can recover the strength and microstructurer of concrete after high temperature.

Abstract:In this paper, based on an island platform of a double-subway station, FDS was used to simulate the fire scenario of luggage fire close to the stair in the middle of platform, with different ventilated exhaust mode. Temperature and smoke concentration were analyzed, and results were compared. The results showed that without mechanical smoke exhaust, smoke drop to 2m above the floor ground at about 600s and any stairs is unavailable, while each stair is available for evacuation when smoke exhaust is on; the validity of platform smoke exhaust is critical to the control of fire development and evacuation safety when 1.5MW luggage fire is on in the middle of platform, while train area exhaust and concourse make-up air have little effect on smoke control under this circumstance.

Abstract:One building that is completed in 2006 in Weizhou Town (Wenchuan county), which is a typical local reinforcement concrete (RC) frame, is studied to review the safety levels of local RC frame building. The adopted assessment levels of earthquake ground motion is according to the earthquake fortification intensity in 2010 Chinese Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (CCSDB). By using nonlinear finite element method, probabilistic seismic demand model (PSDM) for the RC frame structures was built to assess the safety levels of the actual RC frames representative of design and construction practices in in Weizhou Town. The fragility curves for immediate occupancy, significant damage, and collapse prevention damage levels of the RC frame building are analyzed. Then the seismic fragility assessment of the RC frame is demonstrated on RC frames. The result reveals the safety levels of RC frame building in in Weizhou Town before the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake Mw7.9.

Abstract:On the basis of the principles of finite element method and infinite element method, the 3-dimensional finite element and infinite element coupling model is established to solve the dynamic responses of semi-infinite soil. In the method, the finite element model with eight-node hexahedron solid element is adopted in the nearer field, and while in the farther field three types of infinite elements are applied, including 3-dimensional monodirectional, bidirectional, and three-way mapping infinite element, in which different infinite element is coupled with finite element on different position of interface. In addition, shape functions of infinite elements are derived by means of their mapping functions. Moreover, the effectiveness of this method is validated by comparing calculated results and analytical solution under static loading. Finally, the dynamic responses of semi-infinite soil under moving constant load and moving harmonic load are caculated and it is found that acceleration increases with the increase of moving speed and loading frequency of load.

Abstract:This paper summarizes two main explosive spalling mechanisms (Vapor pressure build-up mechanism and Thermal stress mechanism) of concrete at elevated temperature, and also presents the measures to resistant the explosive spalling, i.e. by incorporating fibers (polypropylene fiber(PPF), steel fiber(SF) and hybrid fiber of the first two). Vapor pressure build-up mechanism is known as that high-dense internal structure and not-connected capillary channel of HPC hold back water vapor escaping rapidly out of pores during heating, vapor pressure thus come into being. Thermal stress mechanism is deemed to that inner heat transfer of concrete at high temperature is not uniform because of thermal inertia of concrete, temperature gradients form, and then produce thermal stress, which rises with the increasing temperature. When thermal stress reaches to a certain value and forms the tensile stress in excess of tensile strength of concrete itself, explosive spalling occurs. Finally, the further studies of both the mechanism and the measures are proposed. Also, the preliminary study of ultra high-strength concrete (UHSC) on fire-resistance are mentioned.

Abstract:In this paper, Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) incorporating coarse aggregate was prepared with common raw materials. An experimantal investigation was conducted on the influencing factors on compressive strength of ultra-high performance concrete, including water to binder ratio (W/B), particle size range of coarse aggregate, fine modulus of sand, dosage of binder materials, types and dosage of mineral admixtures, steel fiber. The results indicated that, all the factors tested affected compressive strength of concrete, especially the W/B and mineral admixtures. With the lower W/B, incorporating mineral admixtures and using high-performance superplasticizer, UHPC incorporating coarse aggregate can be prepared successfully with the compressive strength about 150MPa. Further research results on the mechanical properties of UHPC will be reported recently.

Abstract:This research focuses on mechanical performances of UHTCC-FGC beams under monotonic and fatigue loading. A total of 3 UHTCC-FGC beams including 2 monotonic beams and one fatigue beam are tested, and the stress level of fatigue beam is set as 0.85. The constant ratio of minimum stress to maximum stress is set to 0.2 to avoid any impact and slip between the loading machine and the specimens during testing. The specimen is subjected to sinusoidal cyclic loading at 1 frequency. During the experiments, the fatigue life, deformability and loading capacity of UHTCC-FGC beams are measured and recorded. Meanwhile, the development of cracks and the failure pattern of UHTCC-FGC beams during the test are observed at the same time.

Abstract:This paper is dedicated to the buckling behaviors of strengthened perforated plates under edge shear loading, which is a typical load pattern of steel plates in civil engineering, especially in plate and box girders. The square plates considered each has a centric circular hole and is simply supported on four edges in the out-of-plane direction. Three types of strengthening stiffeners named ringed stiffener (RS), flat stiffener (FSA and FSB) and strip stiffener (SSA, SSB and SSC) are mainly discussed. The finite element method (FEM) has been employed to analyse the elastic and elasto-plastic buckling behavior of unstrengthened and strengthened perforated plates. Results show that most of the strengthened perforated plates behave higher buckling strengths than the unstrengthened ones, while the enhancements in elastic buckling stress and elasto-plastic ultimate strength are closely related to stiffener types as well as plate geometric parameters including plate slenderness ratio and hole diameter to plate width ratio. The critical slenderness ratios of shear loaded strengthened perforated plates, which determine the practical buckling pattern (i.e., elastic or elasto-plastic buckling) of the plates, are also studied. Based on the contrastive analyses of strengthening efficiency considering the influence of stiffener consumption, the most efficient cutout-strengthening methods for shear loaded perforated square plates with different slenderness ratios and circular hole diameter to plate width ratios are preliminarily identified.

Abstract:In order to calculate the force transmitted to the top of pier induced by high-speed train running through continuous girder bridge, the semi-analytical dynamic interaction model is established for train-track-continuous girder bridge system, in which the dynamic character-istics of train, track, and bridge are taken into account. In the method, all the derivations are carried in the frequency domain and the vibrations in the time domain are obtained by inverse Fourier transformation, which makes it very convenient to observe dynamic characteristics of train-track-bridge structure from the point of frequency. Compared to the FEM model, the presented semi-analytical method is easier to calculate and the solution is more accurate.

Abstract:The surrounding area of Tai Lake has an intensified water network. In this region, a distinct type of settlement form emerged which has an intimate relationship with water network. This paper take Kaihsienkung as a case study, which is a typical village in this region and also a well-known village since sociologist Hsiao-tung Fei published a book about it in 1939. By this study, our study try to start a dialogue with sociologists, explaining the evolution mechanism of the village from spatial point of view, especially the implicit rules in the transformation process of its public space system. By the methods of behavior investigation, site survey, archival research, morphological and syntactic analysis, the authors want to explore what are the main factors responsible for the evolution process of public space and different impacts of these factors. This paper is constitued by three parts. The first part depicted both the physical and social transformation of the settlement, especially its expansion, the shift location of shops and the movement flows. The second part applied morphological and syntactic analysis to uncover the spatial structure of this village in the 1930's and now. It was done in three dimensions by both axial analysis and angular segment analysis. (1) A comparison of the road network spatial structure in 1936 and in 2011; (2) A comparison of the location of spatial core in the water system network, road system network, and a combined network of the two; (3) A comparison of the "Vehicles Road System" and "Only for Walk System" in the current village. These quantitative analysis showed us the different degree of impact from the road, water and highroad network respective. The third part explored the two fold relationship between the spatial network and social phenomenon. There are four main findings and reflections from this research. Firstly, this case study again illustrated the classical argument in space syntax theory on the relationship among spatial configuration, movement flow and land-use. Secondly, by syntactic analysis, we provided quantitative and objective evidence for the common believe in Chinese academic world, that the spatial logic of the village and towns in Tai Lake valley has undergone a dramatic shift from "attracted by water" in the early 20th century to "attracted by road" currently. Thirdly, we found the competition between public interest and private interest manifested itself very clearly in the transformation process of this village's public space system. Finally, we found in many aspects, the Angular Segment analysis can better describing the spatial structure of Kaihsienkung. Whether Angular Segment model can better depict the spatial structure of a settlement with curving waterfront than the traditional Axial model need further study's examination.
