Abstract:Time-invariant low-density parity-check convolutional codes (LDPC-CCs) can be represented by a polynomial-domain parity-check matrix derived from the corresponding quasi-cyclic (QC) LDPC block codes (LDPC-BCs). Based on the analysis of the graphical structure of short cycles in $ extbf{H}^T(D)$, we propose a method to design the polynomial syndrome former matrix $ extbf{H}_{CR}^T(D)$ for LDPC-CCs. It eliminates short cycles and shows better decoding performance on an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with lower bit error ratio (BER) curves.

Abstract:Facial expression is deemed as a sign of expressing one's internal emotion. Automatic recognition of spontaneous facial expression is the most popular research area during the past decades. Similarly, automatically recognizing pain from spontaneous facial expression is of increased attention, because of its wide application in clinical settings, such as for patients who cannot express their pain vocally. Such special categories of patients may be neonates, patients with dementia, patients in intensive care units, etc. Lots of research work focus on detecting binary results of pain from facial expressions, whereas this insufficient results may lead to under treatment for patients. In addition, detecting pain from static imges may lose lots of valuable information. Therefore, automatic detection of pain intensity in video sequences has become popular in the field. However, the lack of databases in natural scenarios related to pain expression and the reduction of the large dimensionality of facial features are the major problem in this field. In the present paper, several databases and the basic detecting model and methods that are used in concurrent studies are reviewed , together with the remaining challenges of pain detection.

Abstract:The conventional uplink transmission method suffers from high latency which is not enough to guarantee the requirement of latency sensitive applications, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and real time gaming. In order to decrease the delay, in the Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) system, contention-based (CB) uplink transmission solution is proposed. This method allocates a contention-based Grant (CB Grant) to a group of uplink synchronized users (i.e., a CB user group). However, collision probability increases with the load due to the same uplink resources shared by several users. In this paper, we proposed a coordination-based uplink transmission method to avoid collisions. The eNB configures the coordination resource to a group of users which can listen to each other by using Device-to-Device (D2D) communication, and one shared Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) resources. When a user equipment (UE) has data to transmit, it will send a request and listen on the coordination resource, then UE sending on the coordination resource with the highest priority can transmit uplink data on the shared PUSCH resource. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed method can improve resource utilization and reduce latency.

Abstract:This paper studies the problem of robust classifier for visual pedestrian detection, based on HOG (Histograms of Oriented Gradient) descriptors. The average gradient image over the training positive examples is similar with the personal sketch and the variance represents poses in various complicated environments. Inspired by these, Large Margin Distribution Learning is investigated. It is found that the performance of LDM classifier with appropriate parameters is better than SVMs', nevertheless it is difficult to obtain optimal parameters. In order to improve robustness, ELDM (Ensemble Large Margin Distribution Machine) including maximizing the minimum margin and two margin distributions is proposed, which is the best in convex combination of SVMs and two LDMs with different parameter orders. The impact of parameters which are sensitive in the robustness of LDM is weakened by ELDM and ensemble parameters are obtained by the mesh grid optimization. Experimental results show that ELDM can obtain better results than existing classifiers for pedestrian detection in the classification performance and stability.

Abstract:CO-OFDM is sensitive to phase noise (PN), which will cause common phase error (CPE) and intercarrier interference (ICI). Pilots are used to compensate for the PN. However, the phase of the comb-type pilot subcarriers (PSs) also suffers the ICI from the adjacent data-bearing subcarriers in real systems. In terms of this issue, a low-complexity comb-type pilot scheme is proposed in CO-OFDM system for testing the impact of the ICI by adding blank subcarriers (also guard subcarriers or GSs) at both sides of PSs. By increasing the number of GSs, the ICI on PSs can be reduced and a better performance of the phase compensation is achieved. The proposed pilot scheme with GSs is employed in a typical 20Gbit/s QPSK CO-OFDM system, and the simulation results show that after 50km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) transmission in conventional conditions, our scheme can reduce the error vector magnitude (EVM) by about 3%.

Abstract:With more and more mobile devices are connected into the network, the mobile network presents the following features: intermittent connectivity is frequent and mobile nodes can communicate with each other even if a route connecting them did not previously exist. So the mobile opportunistic networks emerged. The communications in mobile opportunistic networks take place on the establishment of opportunistic contacts among mobile nodes, without availability of end-to-end message routing paths. To ensure source nodes connect with destination quickly and send message successfully in the mobile opportunistic networks, we studied six different routing protocols for transmitting message in the mobile opportunistic networks and took analysis about their advantages and disadvantages.

Abstract:Automatic caption location and recognition in videos is now recognized as a key component in the development of a advanced video annotation and retrieval systems. In this paper,a automatic caption location and recognition system is proposed, which is mainly composed of a caption location and character recognition subsystem. In the caption location module,a novel binarization technique named LMM,which makes use of the image contrast that is defined by the local image maximum and minimum is applied.Abundant experiment prove that this algorithm has good performance in suppressing the complex background in image. Multi-frames fusion is used to get a more accurately binarization image and projection method is adopted to segment the character later. Finally, extracting the characters's edge statistical information to form a feature vector, calculating the similarity between vectors to recognize the character. Do a post-processing to further improve the recognition rate. We achieved relatively satisfactory experiment results, our recognition rate is nearly 0.9 in various video .

Abstract:The capacity demand for mobile network has been growing very fast in recent years, which makes the mobile network operators exploring new mobile network structure based on cloud infrastructure, i.e. C-RAN. The C-RAN system makes centralized processing and large-scale cooperative transmission possible, and it may bring remarkable improvement on system performance. In this paper, a mode of inter-RRH timing offset (TO) is proposed to evaluate the C-RAN with timing alignment error (TAE). Results show that although C-RAN has a great potential on improving system performance, it can only get nearly half of the gain under TAE. To suppress the effect of TAE, the phase compensation beamforming is performed at RRH side using feedback information of UE side. The beamforming can offset the effect of phase shift caused by TAE. It is observed that the algorithm performs well and the system only suffers about 5%~10% performance loss compared with nearly 50% loss with no phase compensation.
