Abstract:Reducing the computational complexity of MMSE multiuser detection algorithms is the key to put them into practice for CDMA systems. In this paper, we studied the MMSE optimization criterion and the convergence characteristics of various iterative techniques in detail. We also analyzed the gradient projection algorithm and the algorithm of steepest descent to implement MMSE multiuser detection. Then we proposed an improved algorithm of steepest descent with noisy gradient. The algorithm uses time-varying step iteration to avoid the problems of complex inverse operation of correlation matrices and the low convergence speed in traditional MMSE algorithms. The simulation results show that the algorithm can offer stable convergence and good detection performance.

Abstract:Genetic Algorithm (GA) has proven to be a useful method of optimization for multidimensional engineering problems. A new method named Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been proposed by Kennedy and Eberhart and it is similar in some ways to GA or Evolutionary Programming (EP). In this paper, we apply PSO to solve the Multiuser Detection (MUD) problems in the DS-CDMA system, which reduces the computational complexity by providing faster convergence. The simulation results show that the proposed detections benefit greatly from the PSO and have significant performance improvements over Conventional Detector (CD) and previous multiuser detectors based on GA and EP in terms of bit-error-rate and convergence rate.

Abstract:It was recently shown that IEEE 802.11 MAC has a problem of anomaly. When one user transmits at a lower bit-rate than the others, the performance of all users is considerably degraded. So PackServDiff, packet-based service differentiation, is presented in this paper. In PackServDiff, a user with a higher bit-rate has a higher priority by differentiating contention parameters, namely the initial contention window size, the maximum backoff stage, persistent factor, the maximum contention window size and retry limit. A user can tune the value of its contention parameters packet by packet to the current channel conditions. Simulation results show that PackServDiff can resolve the problem of anomaly and the proposed analytical model is accurate in computing throughput, bandwidth, delay and jitter.

Abstract:Meijer’G function is an important tool for the capacity analysis of orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBCs) over fading channels. In this paper, using Meijer’G function, we derive some novel formulas on the average capacity and outage probability of OSTBCs over usual flat Rayleigh fading channel. These formulas can be also expressed using complementary incomplete gamma function. Moreover, we also give an average capacity expression of OSTBCs over Rayleigh fading channel with keyhole.

Abstract:The performance of Bayesian Maximum a posterior DOA estimator (BMAP) is excellent [1, 2], and it also can be used to estimate the DOAs of coherent sources [3]. However, the computation burden of this estimator is very large. In order to resolve the problem of computation burden, a new BMAP using Gibbs sampling and particle filtering is proposed and the formulation of this new estimator is derived. The simulation results show that the new estimator not only keeps the excellent performance of the original BMAP, but also provides reduced computational complexity of this estimator from O(LK) to O(K×J×Ns×N) especially for K>3 due to K Ns<N<J<L.

Abstract:DOA estimation is an important research area in array signal processing. Bayesian maximum a posterior probability density DOA estimator (BM DOA estimator) has been shown to perform perfectly. However, the BM estimator requires a multidimensional grid search and the computational burden increases exponentially with the dimension. So it is difficult to be used in realtime applications. In order to reduce the computation, Monte Carlo methods are combined with BM DOA estimator. A novel Bayesian maximum a posterior DOA estimator based on importance sampling (ISBM DOA estimator) is proposed in this paper. ISBM DOA estimator not only keeps the good performance of the original BM DOA estimator, but also reduces the computation obviously because it needs not multidimensional search and reduces the computational complexity of the original method from to . Simulation results show that ISBM DOA estimator keeps the superior performance of BM DOA estimator, but also reduces the computation evidently and performs better than MUSIC and MiniNorm, especially in the case of low SNRs.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop space-time (ST) Rake receivers for Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) base stations (BS). The beamforming of BS transforms the uplink MIMO channel space into many sub-sectors’ channels to be nearly orthogonal, thus, well established 1-D Rake technology can be used to TD-SCDMA base station to construct ST Rake, which simplified the system’s implementation as well as enlarged users’ capacity by the beamforming. The construction and capacity of MIMO sub-sectors by multi-beamforming have been presented. The proposed ST Rake algorithm include the multi-beamforming algorithm for MIMO sub-sectors and classical 1-D Rake algorithm. The calculating formulas for interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and bit error rate (BER) have been derived. Simulations verify that the proposed ST Rake receiver for BS is effective, and the BS systems can get higher system capacity and can be of better performance than presented TD-SCDMA systems.

Abstract:For the sake of the potential ability of overcoming interference in TD-SCDMA(time division-synchronous code division multiple access) systems, pilot signal is adopted, but the presented TD-SCDMA protocol has not considered the Rake technique for their mobile terminals. This paper developed a RAKE receiver algorithm and an implementation circuit, which make use of the pilot signal in the burst structure of the TD-SCDMA base station to estimate main channel parameter (channel delays) in the downlink of TD-SCDMA wireless network. The algorithm can reduce multipath interference for the mobile units in multiusers’ case. Theoretic performance analysis presented in the paper and computer simulations confirm that the proposed RAKE receiver algorithm achieved a better BER performance under multipath fading propagation and multiusers conditions.

Abstract:An improved approach of face localization based on the Hausdorff Distance(HD) measure is proposed in this work. First, we modify the similarity measure in the template-based matching. The common form of HD only computes the average of the mismatch of each point in the point set A to the point set B. We improved it by considering the average and the standard deviation together. The new measure is more robust against the variance of poses, expressions and identities. Then we also apply the HD measure to compute the symmetry of the test image, which is an important characteristic of human faces. This symmetry measure is combined with the template-based matching during face localization process. The experimental results demonstrate that both improvements can enhance the performance of face localization.

Abstract:For orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems, the frequency offset in mobile radio channels distort the orthogonality between subcarriers, which results in Intercarrier Interference(ICI) and seriously degrades the performance of systems. In this paper, based on ICI coefficients analysis, a novel precoder design scheme is proposed for mitigation of ICI in OFDM mobile systems. In this technique, precoder matrix is designed by the way of linear combination, counteraction and inserted in the former of transmitter signal, the received signals can be linear recovered without bandwidth efficiency reduced. BER performances are analyzed for the proposed scheme. Computer simulation results show that this new scheme can effectively reduce ICI and significantly provide the carrier-interference power ratio improvement. Compared with existing ICI mitigation schemes with channel estimation, the proposed scheme has lower computational complexity, and compared with self-cancellation scheme, the bandwidth efficiency can be improved in this proposed scheme. The proposed scheme has also better convergence stability for time-varying frequency selective fading channel.
