Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the relation between the filtering accuracy and the sampling number drawn by Particle Filtering (PF) based on the confidence interval theory, and a adaptive sampling numbers PF (APF) is proposed. The conventional PF (CPF) algorithm keeps constant sampling numbers during the entirely filtering time, and its filtering precision depends severely on the sampling number, thus CPF bears a larger computational load. Compared with CPF, the proposed APF achieves almost same filtering precision with adaptive variable sampling number, the higher filtering accuracy can be guaranteed by a pre-determined confidence coefficient. Great deals of Monte-Carlo simulations are performed and show that the average sampling number and the computational load of the proposed algorithms are reduced greatly.

Abstract:In order to study the impact of channel estimation error on the channel capacity of a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system, a novel method is proposed to explore the channel capacity under correlated Rayleigh fading. The system model is constructed based on the channel estimation error at the receiver side. And using the properties of Wishart distribution, the lower bound on the channel capacity is derived when the MIMO channel is full rank. And then a method is proposed to select the optimum set of transmit antennas based on the lower bound on the mean channel capacity. The proposed method based only on the fading correlation and not the instantaneous channel realization. And also its computational complexity is low and tends to be realized. The simulation results show that the channel capacity of MIMO system is sensitive to the channel estimation error. The channel capacity is maximized when the signal-to-noise increases to a certain point. Antenna selection of transmitter can increase the channel capacity of MIMO system by about 1bit/s in a flat fading environment with rank deficient channel.

Abstract:Focusing on chattering from uncertainties of the control system, a novel hybrid methodology for the adaptive sliding mode control of chaotic dynamical systems with uncertainties is proposed based on the excellent identification abilities of support vector machine. Support vector machine is used to model uncertainties of the control system so that the uncertainties of the control system becomes small, and only an lower switching gain control law without chattering is needed. The method tested for the Duffing and Chua’s circuit system shows excellent performance.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a nonlinear transform to efficiently reduce the high peak-to-average power ratio of OFDM. The nonlinear transform changes time domain signal amplitude‘s statistic distribution from Rayleigh to approximate uniform, therefore not only reduce time domain signal’s dynamic range, but also reduce the high peak to average power ratio to a low level. The proposed scheme performed well when in the circumstances of Rayleigh fading channel on the symbol error rate. The proposed scheme’s performance is confirmed by simulations

5. Computing EigenFace From Edge Images for Face Recognition Based on Hausdorff Distance

Abstract:The different face regions have different degrees of importance for face recognition. In previous Hausdorff distance measures for face recognition, such as Spatially Eigen-Weighted Hausdorff distance (SEWHD), the weighting function is computed from grayscale images. However, Hausdorff distance is a measure for two binary point sets, not for grayscale point sets. A point which is important in grayscale domain does not necessarily mean it is important in edge domain. In this paper, a new weighting function of Hausdorff distance measure is proposed for face recognition. The weighting function is based on the eigenface of face edge images, not the eigenface of grayscale images in previous method. When comparing the edge images of the face model and that of a test face edge image in face recognition, the weighted Hausdorff distance can reflect the discriminative properties of face edge images effectively. Experimental results show the new method achieves higher recognition rate comparing with previous Hausdorff distance measures

6. Expression-independent face recognition based on Higher-Order Singular Value Decomposition

Abstract:In this paper, a new method for extracting expression-independent face features based on HOSVD (Higher-Order Singular Value Decomposition) is proposed and used for face recognition. In the new method, it is assumed that a facial expression could be represented by the facial expressions in the training set. In addition, the expression with higher similarity to the expression of test person has higher probability to represent the expression of test person. Expression-similarity weighted face feature, which is the optimal estimation based on Bayesian estimation theory and the assumption, is used to estimate the face feature of the test person. As a result, the estimated face feature can reduce the influence of expression caused by insufficient training data and becomes less expression-dependent, and can be more robust to new expressions. The proposed method has been applied to Japanese Female Facial Expression (JAFFE) database. Expression-independent experimental results show the superiority of proposed method over the existing methods in terms of recognition rate and accumulative recognition rate.

Abstract: A new type of combined electron focusing-deflection system is proposed, in which the orientation of the deflection field is rotated following the rotation of the electrons caused by the magnetic lens field. The deflection direction rotated electrical deflectors can be constructed by using TWE (tube wall electrode) systems. Formulae are derived for the first-order optical properties, third order geometrical aberrations and first-order chromatic aberrations of this system. A program was written in FORTRAN for numerical computation. An example is given; the computation results show that compared to the conventional systems, the proposed new system has lower deflection aberration coefficients.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach of identifying signals in complex environments. The signals being studied include the following three kinds, communication signals, radar signals and telecontrol signals. A fuzzy identification based on wavelet transform to feature extraction of signal is proposed. In this study, signals will be analyzed by firstly being taken a wavelet transform, secondly extracted 10 effective statistic features on the time-scale field, and lastly identified by using the fuzzy identification method. Computer simulation shows that the method is effective.

Abstract:Differential algebraic method is of an effective technique in computer numerical analysis. It implements exactly differentiation up to arbitrary high order based on the nonstandard analysis. Some complicated nonlinear dynamics problems including high order aberrations of electron optics systems can be solved by mapping properties of differential algebraic quantities. However, the existed electron optical differential algebraic method can only be applied to those problems where the electric and / or magnetic fields are expressed in analytic forms. In this paper, the principle of differential algebraic method is applied to practical electron lenses whose electric / magnetic fields are in the forms of discrete arrays, for example, the files computed by FEM or FDM method. Thus the developed new differential algebraic method is applicable to engineering design. The programs were written for computing the high order aberrations of practical electron lenses. An example is given to show that the numerical results have good accuracy compared with the results computed by using the electric fields expressed in analytical form; the accuracy is limited only by the accuracy of the numerical computation of the fields and the arithmetic errors, and it is enough for engineering design.

Abstract:In this paper, a low complexity and memory-efficient concatenated codes called Parallel Interleaved Concatenated Gallager Codes (PICGCs) are presented. PICGCs combine both better BER performance of long codes and lower complexity and less memory required of short codes. We introduce the construction of PICGCs. The decoding algorithm based on sum-product algorithm is proposed. We also analyze the memory saving and derive its upper bound. The Simulation results show PICGCs can reduce complexity and memory required of decoding significantly with little sacrifice in performance.
