Abstract:With unprecedented increasing demands on bandwidth due to explosive growth of traffic in the Internet, wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) is proved to satisfy this increasing bandwidth demands in the Internet. Multicasting is becoming more and more popular and important in the Internet for applications such as video conferencing, video-on-demand services, HDTV, and so on. WDM technology and multicasting technology make the services to support large bandwidth demands be possible. so it is becoming a research hot point in resent years. This paper will mainly introduce the multicast in optical WDM network at first and then simulate the multicast performance with OWS and OBS technologies. At last, simulation result shows OBS network is better than OWS in terms of NEU, delay and loss rate/blocking under some conditions.

Abstract:A modified K shortest path (KSP) algorithm is introduced in this paper. In condition of large networks and equal link weights, not all of the paths computed are correct in the traditional KSP algorithm, so an improved method is proposed for solving this situation.

Abstract:Two dispersion compensation schemes of an optical label switching transmission system were investigated, which deploying 40Gb/s Return Zero Differential Phase-Shift Keying (RZ-DPSK) payload labeled with 2.5Gb/s On-Off Keying (OOK) signal based on the Optical Carrier Suppression and Separation (OCSS) technique. In the Fiber Bragg Gating (FBG) scheme the receiver sensitivity of payload and label achieved -32.2dBm and -25.1dBm, respectively. Using the Fiber Bragg Gating (FBG) scheme, after transmitted over 80km, 160km and 320km fiber respectively, the label can be recovered with less than 1dB power penalty average, while the payload can be recovered with less than 1.5dB penalty average, respectively.

Abstract:Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is believed to be the promising candidate for the next-generation access network, due to its large bandwidth and cost-effective virtue. With the purpose of optimizing EPON system to reduce prophase investment and providing an EPON simulation platform on which new algorithms, concepts and mechanisms can be verified, we proposed and built an NS-based EPON simulation platform which is reconciled to IEEE802.3ah. In this paper, the architecture and module design of the platform are presented, implementation of the platform is depicted. In the fifth part, experiments are carried out based on the platform we built and the performance of mainstream Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) algorithms and queue management schemes used in EPON are analyzed and compared. For the DBA, the average packet delay, jitter and system throughput under different DBA schemes are tested with the offered Optical Network Unit (ONU) load increases form 0.1 to 0.9. For the queue management block, the average packet delay, jitter, average queue size and system throughput for voice, video and data service under different queue management schemes are tested respectively with the offered ONU load increases form 0.1 to 0.9. According to the simulation results, it can be concluded that, in terms of DBA algorithms, Salira and G983.4 DBA has better performance than Fixed and Limited DBA of IPACT. In terms of queue management schemes, the three mechanisms all have their own merit and disadvantage, and the greater weight value one CoS gets, better performance it can attain. Based on that, we’ve proposed future extending and upgrading plans on this simulation platform.

Abstract:We present a system of chaos communication based on two synchronized semiconductor lasers. When synchronization is obtained, messages are added to the slave and transmitted to the master through an additional reverse link other than transmitted from the mater to the slave. Simulation results show that, in this system, synchronization quality is not affected by messages, and decoding quality is not constrained by chaos pass filtering effect. Finally, an extension of this system is discussed to increase the communication security.

Abstract:Light-trail is a solution to providing high resource utilization and sub-wavelength support. A light-trail is a multi-point light-path, such that multiple users can take part in communication along the trail, through time (differentiated) non-overlapping connections. This multi-point flow model leads to a new set of problems in the area of protecting and restoring light-trail based networks. Conventional link protection which just protects the existed connection in the light-trail at the time of the failure is not sufficient for light-trails because of the potential of having multiple possible source-destination pairs in the same trail over time. In this paper, a novel protection mechanism is proposed for light-trail WDM mesh network, which is Backup Light-trail Expending scheme. Subsequently the performance of this scheme is evaluated and compared to conventional Connection Dedicated Protection Scheme. Numerical results obtained by simulation indicate that, Backup Light-trail Expending Scheme has a faster restoration time and better wavelength utilization

Abstract:Token scheme is one of methods to overcome burst collision problem in Optical Burst Switch Ring Network with Fixed Transmitters and Tunable Receivers, but it brings big End-to-End delay and decreases bandwidth utilization. In this paper an advanced token protocol is proposed, which can make better performance on End-to-End delay and bandwidth utilization.

Abstract:An optical burst switched ring network test-bed is presented in this paper. Advanced token protocol is adopted in the test-bed to guarantee packet-loss-free along the ring. Wavelength tunable receivers are employed to avoid collision in the destination. Through analyzing of experiment results, we can conclude that our OBS test-bed is prefer to transmit high-speed smaller data burst.
