Abstract:Diagnostic engineering involves diagnosis of faults, examination and interpretation of defects, investigation of malfunctions, introduction and operation of condition monitoring – and numerous related activities. Diagnostic engineers require knowledge of many disciplines and an understanding of the operating principles of machine, instruments, controls; of strengths and functional capabilities. In particular, professional diagnostic skills are needed to compare the behaviour of a contraption when ‘in health’ with what it does when in ‘distress’. Then, the diagnostic engineer can do something to improve less-favorable condition. | |||
