Abstract:A compact multiband planar monopole antenna for WWAN/LTE applications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a folded monopole with a resistance load and a shorted parasitic strip. The antenna is printed on the FR4 dielectric substrate and the dimension of the antenna is only 43mm×10mm×0.8mm. The antenna prototype has been fabricated and measured to verify the performance of antenna. The measured results agree with the simulated results well. In the case of VSWR smaller than 3:1, the proposed antenna is capable of covering GSM850, GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS 2100, LTE2300 and LTE2500 bands. The proposed antenna is suitable for WWAN/LTE mobile devices.

Abstract:A monopole antenna with parasitic structures enabling multiband operation for WWAN/LTE mobile terminals is proposed. The antenna is comprised of one folded monopole strip, two parasitic shorted strips and a matching network. The overall antenna dimension is only 38.3 mm* 11.4 mm*0.8 mm, which is appropriate for mobile phone applications. The measured impedance bandwidths (S11<-6 dB) are 340MHz at the low band (0.82-1.16GHz, 34.3% FBW) and 1.39 GHz at the high band (1.61-3GHz, 60.3% FBW). Within the frequency band of interest, good radiation performances are obtained. The proposed antenna is applicative for WWAN/LTE mobile terminals including mobile phones, data cards and wearable devices.

Abstract:To improve network throughput and energy consumption, device-to-device (D2D) communications have gained much attention. Due to low antenna heights and motion of both terminal ends, the fading characteristics of D2D channel is different from that of traditional cellular networks. An autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) model is proposed in this letter to better characterize the correlated shadow fading in D2D scenarios based on field measurements in urban areas. The ARMA model is actually an extension of the damped exponential correlation model, and could capture the key components in shadowing process.

Abstract:We present here a wide-angle broadband waveplate based on a field transformation (FT) method. By adjusting the thickness of such waveplate, we obtain both half-wave and quarter-wave plates which achieve polarization conversions between TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic), LCP (left-handed circular polarization) and RCP (right-handed circular polarization), linear and circular polarizations separately for both transmission and reflection cases. Such waveplates can be realized through sub-wavelength dielectric gratings based on effective media theory, whose performances have been verified through numerical and full-wave simulations with measurements carried out in microwave regime. In principle the proposed prototype is applicable from radio to optical frequencies.

Abstract:Antenna array synthesis with a minimum number of antenna elements is of interest in many applications. In this work, an iterative method based on FOCUSS algorithm, for the design of sparse arrays is proposed. The FOCUSS algorithm is a weighted Lp-norm (0 < p < 1) minimization which can give the locations and excitations of sparse elements at the same time under a certain constraint. In order to balance the accuracy and speed, an off-grid model is introduced into this algorithm. Numerical simulations are presented to show the high precision and efficiency of this method to achieve the desired radiation pattern with sparse non-uniform linear array.

Abstract:In this paper, a hybrid technique of EFIE and DSIE is proposed for analyzing the radiation of antennas in the presence of very thin dielectric radomes, which take the interaction between the antenna and the thin radome into account. The antenna is modeled by the conventional electric field integral equation (EFIE), and a D-field surface integral equation (DSIE) is employed for fast analysis of scattering by the very thin radomes with high dielectric constant. The DSIE is derived from the volume integral equation (VIE) inside the dielectric region by neglecting the normal component of the electric flux density when the dielectric constant is high. Modeling the entire geometry with triangular meshes, the coupled IE can be easily solved by the method of moment (MoM) using the popular RWG function as basis and test functions. Fast algorithm-multilayer fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) is applied to enhance the efficiency and cut down the computation complexity. The radiation pattern and the input impedance of wire antennas enclosed in thin dielectric radomes are calculated. The numerical results show the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed method.

7. Electromagnetic Analysis for Conductive Media Based on Volume Integral Equations

Abstract:Accurate electromagnetic (EM) analysis for conductive media requires to consider the finite conductivity of the media. Although the problems can be formulated by surface integral equations (SIEs) with an approximate surface impedance, we treat the conductive media as penetrable objects and use volume integral equations (VIEs) to exactly describe their EM features. The VIEs are solved by a point-matching scheme which does not rely on any basis and testing functions and allows the use of nonconforming meshes. Since the VIEs are well-conditioned in general and the integral kernels are free of material parameters, the scheme is flexible to accommodate a wide range of skin depth. Moreover, when the skin depth is small, we can only discretize the skin domain with a current distribution to reduce the cost. Typical numerical examples are presented to illustrate the scheme and its effectiveness has been validated.

Abstract:Indoor Positioning for Location Based Service (LBS) is required in various applications, such as emergency first-aid, store automation, large building management and others. However, compared to communication supplement system, current satellite navigation systems like GPS and Beidou cannot cover indoor environment well as satellite signals are unable to penetrate multi-walls. This paper introduces research on utilization of indoor supplement antennae in mobile communication system to realize indoor positioning for LBS. The propagation of indoor positioning signals was analyzed by establishing indoor signal fading model Multi-floors Routing Loss Model (MRLM). Considering the difference of positioning and communication, effects of current indoor antennae distribution were simulated in matlab and actual test was accomplished as well. The results demonstrate that indoor antennae satisfies positioning demand basically where indoor LBS can be provided based on current communication supplement system in large scale with low cost upgrade.

Abstract:The complex boundary of traditional curvilinear element is described by the interpolation nodes and shape basic functions, and then the interpolation precision of element boundary depends seriously on the number of nodes and order of shape basic functions. For the sake of approaching the complex boundary accurately, a high precision interpolation scheme of curvilinear element boundary is presented based on the Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) in this work. According to the nodes geometric information of element, the very precise interpolation boundary can be obtained in this scheme. Some numerical experiments show the precision and availability of this interpolation scheme.

Abstract:In order to improve the solution precision and save the computational cost in the FEM for electromagnetics field, a mixed 36 edges orthogonal reinforced curvilinear hexahedra vector finite element is proposed in this paper. The mixed vector basic functions are constructed with the 54 edges vector basic functions provided by ANSYS software and Kameari's 36 edges vector basic functions. Furthermore, some normalized factors are introduced to reinforce the orthogonality on the sampling points besides the integral orthogonality. The precision and efficiency of the mixed vector finite element are shown by the numerical experiments.
