This paper presents a novel power/ground planes for suppressing the ground bounce noise (GBN) by utilizing a two-dimensional photonic bandgap (PBG) structures. The proposed PBG structure adopts spiral-shaped defects on power plane of power/ground planes. Due to the spiral-shaped defects, the equivalents shunt inductance varies in wide range. The proposed structure behaves high performance of suppressing GBN within a very broadband frequency range from 0.5 GHz to 5GHz.
Keywords:broadband, GBN, PBG, power/ground, spiral
