The reconnection launcher, which launches solid projectile, is a kind of the electromagnetic launchers. The operation principle of the reconnection launcher is introduced. A model of three-stage reconnection launcher is set up by MATLAB and the velocity of the projectile is simulated. As the velocity of the projectile is a variant during the launch, a velocity measurement method for the three-stage reconnection launcher in practice is presented, on the basis of computer and micro controller unit (MCU). A practical three-stage reconnection launcher is fabricated and a 160g-plate projectile is launched. The final launched velocity is accelerated to 24.991m/s in three steps. A velocity curve is gained by this method and it is consistent with the simulated result.
