Unsymmetrical dimesogenic compounds having cholesteryl and 4-trans- (4-n -alkylcyclohexyl) phenoxy group were synthesized by condensation of cholesterylω-bromopentanoates with appropriate 4-trans- (4-n-alkylcyclo- hexyl) phenols. Structures and thermal phase behaviour of these dimers have been confirmed by IR, 1H NMR , elemental analysis,DSC,polarity microscopy and XRD measurements. Their thermal phase behaviour is significantly different to that of other cholesterol-based liqud crystalline dimmers which having low and wide phase transition temperature.
