The research of the foreign language teaching methodology develops continuously. Different teaching approaches emerge in an endless stream. The cognitive approach is put forward under the requirement of the age. It has firm psychological and linguistic theoretical basis and it reveals the cognitive rules. This paper first discusses the theoretical basis, the basic principles and the procedures of Cognitive Approach and then provides suggestions on its application in the college English teaching in China.
