Onset mechanism is one of the most basic problems in the thermoacoustic field. However there is no reasonable theoretical interpretation of it by now. The active and instability criteria in the circuit network theory were proposed to calculate the onset temperature of the standing wave thermoacoustic engine. A novel model was proposed based on circuit network analogy. The influences of the porosity of the heat exchanger, stack and the length of the resonant tube to the onset temperature were analyzed. The calculated results are in agreement with the experiments.
