The properties of the ergosphere region and theenergy extraction by Penrose process in a rotating non-Kerr blackhole are investigated. It is shown that the ergosphere region issensitive to the deformation parameter ε and the relativeshape of the ergosphere becomes thick with increase of the parameter ε. It is of interest to note that, comparing with the Kerrblack hole, the deformation parameter ε enhances themaximum efficiency of the energy extraction process. Especially, forthe case of a>M, the non-Kerr metric describes a superspinningcompact object and the maximum efficiency can exceed 60%, whileit is only 20.7% for the extremal Kerr black hole.
