The application of semi-rigid base asphalt pavement structures has complemented the flexible pavement structures. The field test results from a test track built in Chongqing, China proved that, other than material selection, structural arrange can influence the shear rutting level. This paper introduces a simple multiaxial yield equation for asphalt pavement materials. It is closely associated with Mohr-Coulomb theory. It also considers both the strength difference between tensile and compressive loading and the difference between σ2 and σ3 in the actual stress field of pavement structures. An asphalt pavement permanent deformation estimation approach has also been introduced based on the proposed yield criterion. The proposed methods have been verified through the successful application in explaining the field test results of Chongqing test track.
