Antenna array synthesis with a minimum number of antenna elements is of interest in many applications. In this work, an iterative method based on FOCUSS algorithm, for the design of sparse arrays is proposed. The FOCUSS algorithm is a weighted Lp-norm (0 < p < 1) minimization which can give the locations and excitations of sparse elements at the same time under a certain constraint. In order to balance the accuracy and speed, an off-grid model is introduced into this algorithm. Numerical simulations are presented to show the high precision and efficiency of this method to achieve the desired radiation pattern with sparse non-uniform linear array.
