We propose an alternative way to enhance optical nonlinearity from nanocomposites containing nonlinear bimetallic nanostructures. The optical nonlinearity enhancement result from two aspects: firstly, both core and shell are metallic material with large nonlinearity themselves; secondly, there are two resonant frequencies for core-shell nanostructures, which are helpful to strengthen the local fields in the core and shell. By fine adjustment of the core-shell size ratio, it is possible to achieve the maximal enhancement of optical nonlinearity from bimetallic coated nanocomposites.
Keywords:optical nonlinearity; composite materials; nonlinear core-shell bimetallic nanopaticles;
