In this paper,lithium-rich layered oxides 0.4Li2MnO3•0.6LiNi2/3Mn1/3O2 material was synthesized via a sol-gel process. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The particle size of the 0.4Li2MnO3•0.6LiNi2/3Mn1/3O2 materials is about 200-500 nm. The as-obtained material shows an alkaline characteristic. By means of our analyses, it is confirmed that the lithium carbonate is formed generally in the electrode material of 0.4Li2MnO3•0.6LiNi2/3Mn1/3O2. A series of 0.4Li2MnO3•0.6LiNi2/3Mn1/3O2 materials with different lithium contents were synthesized to investigate the alkaline characteristic of the samples. The amount of lithium content used in the preparation affects the order of layer structure, which is correlated to the electrochemical performance of the samples. The use of excessive lithium in preparation of the samples is an effective method to improve the electrochemical performance of 0.4Li2MnO3•0.6LiNi2/3Mn1/3O2 electrode material.
Keywords:lithium-rich layered oxides; sol-gel process; specific capacity
