The excitation of normal oscillation modes of a transverse domain wall in cylindrical nanowire induced by alternating spin-polarized current is studied by using micromagnetic simulations. Several localized normal modes are identified and their features are characterized by mapping the spatial distributions of oscillation. When current flows perpendicular to the wall, the excited modes are localized volume modes, surface modes and surface standing-wave modes. For volume modes, the oscillations are mainly distributed at the wall boundary and wall central areas. The oscillations of the surface and surface standing-wave modes are concentrated at the cylindrical surface. The localization and spatial distribution of the normal modes have a close relationship with the total internal field, especially its inhomogeneity. In the case that the current is parallel to the wall, the wall thickness oscillation mode (or breathing mode) is excited. A new kind of thickness modes, surface thickness oscillation mode, is also observed. Besides, the surface mode and surface standing-wave modes are formed around the circle surface at the center of the domain wall.
