Analysis on pyrolytic kinetics and pyrolysates characteristics of deinking sludge in papermaking industry

In order to indagate the utilization of sludge biomass to bioenergy, fast pyrolysis as one of thermochemical conversion technlogies was applied in deinking sludge from the pulp and papermaking industrial. The static pyrolysis tubular furnace as a small scale industrial test was carried out to get pyrolysis products, and pyrolysis behaviours and products of the deinking sludge were characterized. The results revealed that the weight-loss process of deinking sludge was a non-isothermal reaction and composed of four stages, i.e. dewater stage, volatile releasing stage, carbon burnout stage and calcium carbonate decomposition, and the kinetic of deinking sludge pyrolysis was a third-order reaction. The pyrolysis products in the industrial tubular furnace were comprised of the gasesous (29.78%), the condensed bio-oil (24.41%) and the solid residues (45.81%). The volatile component in pyrolysis products was almost aromatic hydrocarbons, i.e. styrene, toluene and benzene and few acids and the solid was calcium carbonate that can be reused as paper filler. The deinking sludge was converted into high-grade fuel and chemicals. Therefore, pyrolysis of paper deinking sludge had a promising development on the comprehensive utilization.
