Using the old/new task and eye-tracking techniques, we explored the Asian individuals eye-movement patterns and behavioral performances of the own- and other-race faces recognition. In experiment 1, we investigated at which region Asian participants look when they were presented by the own- and other-race faces. Our findings reveal that the first fixations in both of the study phase and the test phase where located in eye region for both own- and other-race faces. In experiment 2, we manipulated participants' first fixations location. Results show that the ORE is still there when participants' first fixations located at the eye region of both the own- and other-race faces, but reduced when participants' first fixations located at the nose region of the faces. These findings indicate that the first fixation location in eye-movement is crucial for producing the ORE in face recognition.
