To improve network throughput and energy consumption, device-to-device (D2D) communications have gained much attention. Due to low antenna heights and motion of both terminal ends, the fading characteristics of D2D channel is different from that of traditional cellular networks. An autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) model is proposed in this letter to better characterize the correlated shadow fading in D2D scenarios based on field measurements in urban areas. The ARMA model is actually an extension of the damped exponential correlation model, and could capture the key components in shadowing process.
Keywords:Device-to-device communication; shadow fading; channel correlation; ARMA models
