This paper attmepts to re-examine English teaching through a humanistic perspective by answering the questions of "what has hindered our efforts of effectively helping our students?" and "What can be done to reach all the students and help them learn?" Based upon the constructive view, the paper looks at the respective roles of the learner and the teacher in lanugage teaching and proposes the idea of humanizing English teaching, which is by understanding learners' individual styles, to teach with style, and above all, to observe and make learning happen without neglecting or sacrificing anyone in the classroom. It is an idea of helping to create an encouraging learning environment, to use any necessary activity or technology to "nudge" students one step forward from the point where they are and to provide appropriate help along the way according to individual's learning styles.Teaching techniques and classroom activities are recommended in the paper to serve as an instrument for a glimpse to what teachers are potentially able to help more learning happen.
