This paper demonstrates that the circular antenna array with its nth element dipole phased by an accurate setting can generate the vortex radio beams possessing orbital angular momentum (OAM). Theoretical formulations of its radiation far-field are deduced in the spherical coordinate system and are used to analyze radiation pattern and phase distribution of vortex radio beams. The model of a simulated configuration for circular antenna array is proposed and conducted to validate the theoretical results using 4nec2. Simulation results match well with the theoretical analysis. Both calculated results and simulation results show vortex radio beams possess amplitude null on radiation pattern.
Keywords:Orbital angular momentum (OAM), circular antenna array, radiation pattern, vortex radio beams.
