A substrate scopes of cyclopropanation has been expanded with trifluoroethylamine hydrochloride catalyzed by TPFPPFeCl under a user-friendly condition. Trifluoromethyl-substituted cyclopropanes were generated with high diastereoselectivity and yield, employing styrene derivatives and other heterocyclic alkene as substrates. Moreover, mechanism study shows TPFPP(NO) is the most important reaction intermediate which has not been reported in other metalloporphyrin-catalyzed cyclopropanation reactions.
