Functional connectivity is defined as the temporal coherence between activities of different brain areas. One of the most useful methods to estimate functional connectivity is cross-correlation or coherence of the signals between pairs of scalp electrodes. The multivariate phase synchronization cluster approach is proposed in this paper to estimate the global connectivity based on the scalp EEG waveforms. The simulation results demonstrate that the connectivity sources can be found out and the difference of connectivity strength can be distinguished correctly. Then the analyses of real VEPs data related to human spatial selective attention study show that four connectivity sources can be detected and the difference of connectivity between attention and unattention experiments is quite distinct. In attention cases the connectivity sources are the opposite occipital and the same side frontal, but in unattention cases they are the middle parietal and the posterior occipital.
