An iterative decoding algorithm for serial concatenated codes when the outer code is BCH code and the inner codes is convolutional code is proposed. To implement the soft decision decoding of BCH code, a near-optimal decoding algorithm with modified metrics and Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm based on trellis diagram is proposed and modified BCJR algorithm is applied for iterative decoding of convolutional code. The simulation results of are given on the AWGN channel with BPSK modulation, showing that compared with hard-decision decoding, the proposed algorithm can achieve a coding gain of at least 1.5 dB for a BER (Bit Error Rate) of 10^-4.
