In this paper, a new parameter is proposed for ship detection in ocean regions. Via extending the idea of polarization entropy, the polarization cross-entropy is proposed based on the eigen-decomposition of the polarimetric coherency matrix. The new parameter is evaluated to be effective in ship detection. A CFAR ship detection method is yielded by using the proposed polarization cross-entropy. Experimental results have shown the effectiveness of the new method in ship detection.
