A simple coupling approach between a one-core and a two-core single mode fiber has been proposed and demonstrated. By way of splicing and tapering at the fusion point of one-core single mode fiber and the two-core single mode fiber, an effective coupling technique is implemented. The coupling processing is simulated by the beam propagation method. The effects of the two cores of the two-core fiber non-symmetry and the refractive index of each core slightly deferent are also investigated. The theoretical prediction is confirmed by the experimental results and the difference between simulation and experimental results is also discussed.
