A coaxial electrostatic system is studied, where the inside surface of the outer conductor is corrugated with sinusoidal ripples and connected to a negative voltage while outside surface of the inner rod is smooth and grounded. The electrostatic potential is governed by a 2-dimensional Laplace equation in a cylindrical coordinates system with sinusoidal-ripples boundary conditions. By employing separation of variables, analytical solution of the field is derived in detail. Excellent agreement between the analytical formula and the CSTsimulation is confirmed. As an important application, it can be expected to play a role of the electrostatic wiggler in a free-electron laser.
