Using the Objectively Analyzed air-sea Fluxes (OAFlux) data, we have revisited the causes of the tropical Pacific surface latent heat flux (LHF) trend during 1977-2006. It is suggested that the LHF presents a statistically significant positive trend and its pattern is related to both the ocean warming and the surface wind strengthening. The ocean warming is the direct cause of the LHF trend, while the surface wind strengthening, due to its contribution to the sea surface temperature (SST) trend pattern, is the indirect cause of the LHF trend.
