The effective normalized frequency, the power fraction in the core and the group velocity dispersion of tapered microstructure optical fibers(TMOFs) are investigated by the full-vector effective index method for different values of index α. The index α determinates the shape of TMOFs. It is found that the shape and structure of TMOFs have an important influence on the effective normalized frequency, and the group velocity dispersion. When d/A=0.48, A0=7.2 and A1=2.4 multi-single mode conversion is achieved in TMOFs for the wavelength of 1550 nm.
Keywords:Tapered microstructure optical fibers; Group velocity dispersion; Mode conversion
