The dielectric, piezoelectric and electromechanical properties of (LiCe) modified CaBi2Nb2O9 (CBN) bismuth layer-structured ferroelectric ceramics were investigated. The piezoelectric activity and electromechanical properties of CBN ceramics were significantly improved by (LiCe) modification. The piezoelectric coefficient d33, Curie temperature Tc, electromechanical coupling factors (kp and kt), and mechanical quality factors (Qmp and Qmt), for the CBN ceramics modified with 0.10 mol% (LiCe) were found to be 16 pC/N, 921 oC, 10.4%, 29.6%, 14400 and 5700 respectively. The excellent dielectric and electromechanical spectra, together with its high piezoelectric activities and high Curie temperature (>900 oC), demonstrated the potential of (LiCe) modified CBN ceramics for ultrahigh temperature sensing applications.
