Ceratoides arborescens seeds were tested for the effects of aging-resistance and free radical scavenging following seed ultradry. The results indicated that: (1)Ultradried seeds under the conditions of certain moisture content showed no adverse effect on seed vigor. Furthermore, ultradried seeds significantly enhanced aging-resistant capability under aging-accelerating condition (45℃, 2 days). The critical moisture content for Ceratoides arborescens seeds was about 3.78%. (2) Activities of the antioxidant enzymes including catalase and superoxide dismutase were reserved during storage in an ultradry state. (3) During ultradrying of Ceratoides arborescens seeds, the level of free radicals increased, but decreased as prehumidification before imbibition, which had a scavenging action on free radicals.
