Ficus beecheyana's rhizomes have long been used as a folk medicine to treat rheumatism and diabetes. threo-(2S,3R)-3-(4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-3-ethoxypropane-1,2-diol was isolated from the roots of this plant. In the paper, the asymmetric synthesis of threo-(2S,3R)-3-(4-Hydroxy-3,5- dimethoxyphenyl)-3-ethoxypropane-1,2-diol was reported for the first time, and based on the asymmetric dihydroxylation as a key reaction. The target compound was obtained through six steps.
