Joint transmission is one of the main transmission schemes in coordinated multipoint (CoMP) transmission/reception systems. Due to different distances between UE and coordinated cells, signals will not arrive at the receiver under perfect synchronization. That is, the reception at UE is asynchronous. In this paper, we gave an evaluation on asynchronous reception in multi-cell downlink joint transmission systems using our LTE-based CoMP simulator and proposed an improved solution to mitigate the asynchronous interference. Simulation results showed that per-subband global precoding scheme widely used in joint transmission systems was very sensitive to asynchronous reception and the subcarrier which was used to calculate precoding vector dominated the system performance. our proposed solution achieves significant improvements when asynchronous reception occurs.
