In this paper, wave propagation in chiral metamaterials (CMMs) is reviewed. Firstly the basic electromagnetic characteristics such as optical activity, circular dichroism and negative refraction effect caused by the different transmission of right and left circularly polarized wave in CMMs are presented. Theoretical research methods for effective CMMs such as technique to retrieve the effective constitutive parameters, i.e. permittivity, permeability and chirality parameters, analytical Mie series method, Bi-Isotropic (BI) Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and an extension of conventional FDTD method etc are studied. A brief review of the physical realization and potential applications of chiral metamaterials is given. Finally our work on cloak characteristic of CMMs with Mie series method is discussed.
Keywords:Radio physics; effective; chiral metamaterials; electromagnetic characteristic; physical realization
