Data sharing is common in device-to-device (D2D) communication. During the multicasting phase, the cellular user equipments (UEs) may suffer packet loss because of the poor wireless channel condition. By introducing a D2D cooperative transmission scheme based on network coding (D2D CTNC), this situation can be improved. In the proposed scheme, a UE is chosen as the D2D group leader (GL), who is responsible for collecting feedbacks and selecting the retransmitter. According to a network coded transmission method, the retransmitter sends the encoded data packets to other D2D UEs. Analysis and numerical results show that the proposed scheme performs better than traditional methods mentioned in this paper. The signal overhead is decreased while the bandwidth efficiency is increased. Theoretical lower bound can be achieved in certain cases.
