As we know that deformable-mirror (DM) is used in the adaptive optics (AO) system to compensate the phase distortion of orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams transmitted in atmospheric turbulence. In the AO system, stochastic-parallel-gradient-descent (SPGD) algorithm is used to generate the phase correction pattern for distorted OAM beams. In order to improve spatial compensation capability for phase-front of distorted OAM beams, we focus on the Gaussian index of DM. By changing the value of the Gaussian index of DM, we make some analysis and get the best value of Gaussian index for 32-element DM to compensate the distorted OAM beam. This technique can be applied to AO system to improve the compensation capability.
