Shape plays an important role in object recognition and shape modeling. In this paper, we presented a framework to analyze and implement crucial primitive shape extraction including line, plane, cylinder and sphere. In the framework, PCA analysis, RANSAC, Alpha-shape and Quadrants-based methods are investigated and applied to point cloud data, and we could obtain reasonable primitive shape features for further shape modeling. Experimental results demonstrate that our method could deal with different objects with various shapes.
