The optical limiting (OL) properties of graphene dispersions in chlorobenzene (CB) and N-methy1-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) were studied using a nanosecond laser. By measuring the nonlinear scattering (NLS) light, we demonstrated that NLS effect originating from laser induced solvent micro-bubbles and/or micro-plasmas played an important role in OL process of graphene dispersions. By changing the solvent temperature, the OL ability of graphene dispersion was able to be controlled. The influence of temperature on the OL property of the materials was attributed to the surface tension change of solvents, which was responsible to the NLS in the OL process of the dispersions.
Keywords:optical limiting; graphene; nonlinear optics
