We report the forward radiation lasing and absorption phenomena in pure nitrogen gas produced by a collinear two-color laser setup, consisting of a 800 nm pump and 354 nm probe pulses. The spectral components of transmitted probe pulse are attributed at 353.8 nm, 354.9 nm and 356.4 nm, corresponding to transitions in the first negative band of the singly charged nitrogen molecular ion N2+. Compared with the absorption signals at 354.9 nm and 356.4 nm, the signal at 353. nm is radiational. The present study has a further understanding of population distribution in upper vibrational state.
Keywords:laser propagation in N2 gas; vibrational level distribution; population inversion.
