In this paper, laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) is investigated at the wavelength of 1064 nm in the high-purity silica fiber. The finite element method (FEM) is used to study transmission mode, LIDT and temperature distribution of the fiber. We find that in temperature calculation, results of ray optics is similar with that of wave optics. Both the results show that the center of incident surface is more possible to be damaged. We also characterize the tendency of maximum temperature variation with the increase of laser fluences. Our research can provide systematic FEM simulations for the LIDT of fibers.
